New Scottish Record Barbel

Or was it the Des O'Connor method, with speakers in the water....but this time using Bagpipes music for the desired effect :D

Joking apart, very well done to your friend, perseverance paid off for him....good angling!

Cheers, Dave.

No coat! Must be warm up there!

Congrats to the captor.

Adam

Edit: Just seen date of capture 10th October. It was a little warmer back then :)

Haydn, I believe they may have 'found' their way up there :D
I believe I am right in saying that Barbel are only indiginous in Eastern flowing rivers ? Something to do with when these rivers formed part of the Greater Rhine system when Britain was aprt of the European land mass, many moons ago. Someone may correct if I'm wrong...............

Good fish. Are barbel indiginous or introduced in the Clyde?

Haydn,
Barbel were 1st introduced into the clyde system in the early 70s by match anglers who smuggled them north from a few rivers in Yorkshire & a few in Cumbria/Lancashire, it was thought that they wanted to bump up the coarse fish already contained in the clyde and to have these fish grow on so they wouldnt have to keep travelling south for their barbel fishing.

It seems the Barbel have done well in the clyde with sightings of fish in double figures and I have personally seen one about 3 miles outside glasgow which I would say was easily a double. I dont think the record will stand for long as there is a lot of anglers more interested in barbel fishing in scotland nowadays.

Nice fish, George.
Could have migrated from the Severn, or at least its parents will have ;)

Interestingly we are starting to get a few Scottish lads join my club to fish the Wear.

English barbel in Scottish rivers, probably a fair exchange for all those Scottish dace/roach that ended up in the Wear about the same time :)

One of my friends has just taken the new scottish record for barbel, after 2 seasons of chasing them with not many results but his determination won through in the end. Not a monster but not bad for a fish that people say isnt even present in the river in any numbers..well done Steve :)
