New ruckbag recommendations.

Looking for a new ruckbag approximately 40/50 litres capacity to replace my old Korum bag which has lasted for years but the main compartment zip has busted.
Im not to bothered about bank stick side holders gimmicks. I’d rather have straps and clips for an unhooking mat etc.
Waterproof base,.. preferably all WP with intelligent compartments .
Ive looked online as you do, but recommendations from those who have field tested a few would be helpful.

Just purchased 40lt Drennan Specialist. Very please with it. Unhooking mat clips to rear and other Straps on top for waterproofs or coat. Paid about 60£ I think . Let you now more after 12 months. Its been on the Avon but not the Stour.

had mine about three years cannot fault it. I would always recommend a bit of wax polish on all zips from new. It keeps them running smooth.

Have you considered some of the tactical back packs Dave. Lots of pockets and without the tackle tax. Quality does vary though.

Hi Terry,... I’m a great believer in ‘repair rather than bin’ but I suspect the bag has come to the end of its service,... it’s been a good buy but it’s probably time to replace it.

I have been using a grays rucsaxk for the last 2 seasons
Really well made and comfortable and loads of external storage but… it’s a portrait type bag rather than a landscape one( like your Korum) and I’ve just found myself reverting to an old Korum bag as it just much easier to access stuff and on sloping banks just a lot more stable
I always have to carry a bank stick and hang my grays bag off it as it’s very unstable on our banks
The grays one will probably become a piking bag but excellent quality and VFM if they still are about

Some weeks ago a few of us were reminiscing about hollow glass North Western blanks ( SS and PK’s etc) on another site. I used to build my own rods from them getting all the gear from TM at The Tackle Shop in Gainsborough back in the late 70’s to mid 80’s.
It reminded me of one of my favourite ruckbags which I ‘think’ were made exclusively for the TS ,... which gave the bag it’s name. Definitely one of my better buys,... lasted donkeys years.
A 40 litre ruckbag is my workhorse but I’ve still got a Chub shoulder bag which is well thought out with module bits & bods wallets and boxes,.. but having the weight over one shoulder does my back in nowadays.
The 110 litre Shimano T. ruckbag is still going strong but I only use it on long trips. Last time I carried it on my back I got wedged in a livestock gate thingy on the Wye and couldn’t get out.

I use a fox ruckall, there are many different companies who make similar ones,i think the lay flat design is far superior on river banks than a standard rucksack shape, and access into them is much easier

Agree completely Mark. Flat fully accessible bags are the way forward. Last thing I want is it toppling over or having to empty the thing to get to me tackle.

This is what Iv got. I brought the big one and half the time I wish I’d gone for the smaller bag but at the same time I’d rather carry the bigger one half empty than not have enough room to fit extra stuff like flasks and waterproofs for when the weather ain’t great
