New rod advice

I got a mate of mine into fishing a few years back and I brought him a cheap rod off eBay just to get him started. He’s just moved house from Brum to basically right on the banks of the middle Severn so he’s going to be doing a lot more fishing. His mom messaged me yesterday to say she wants to buy him a rod for Xmas and can I tell her what to get as she obviously hasn’t a clue and my mate told her to ask me cause he ain’t really got a clue either. My mate has said before that he wouldn’t mind having a go on the Trent but there’s no point him getting a too heavy rod as it would only be the odd trip and 99% of his fishing would be on the middle Severn so my question is would you go with a 2.25tc rod and be a bit over gunned for the Severn or would you go with a 2tc as a sort of middle ground? Or just stick with a 1.75?
Also any recommendations on rods. She said there is a £100 budget. Iv been using the same rod for 14 years so not that clued up on them myself.
Cheers Jon

There’s the Korum Twin Tip Plus, which will gives 1.75 & 2.2tc options, and is well within budget. I saw that Korum have got a three top option now too, which has been quite well reviewed online. I’ve had a go on some of the other budget-end Korum rods and they’re decent for the money, in my opinion.

Cheers lads I’ll take a look. If he’s got some change he can put it towards a reel as well as he doesn’t like the reel he’s got

That's the problem at the moment. With more people fishing, anything that's any good sells out really quickly.
I was wondering if it’s cause of lockdown the stores can’t get more stock. On angling direct website they are £45. I saw one shop when I was looking that had them in stock but they were £75

Angling Direct are great at offering fantastic discounts on products they no longer have in stock. It's a way for them to get more traffic on to their site. You Google an item and see the price AD are offering, then visit their site and hopefully get drawn into buying something else that catches your eye. Of course they aren’t the only ones to do it, but it’s highly irritating though.

Iv just seen that korum do a triple tip rod. Looks the same as the double but you get a quiver top as well

With a budget of £100...I would get a tenner put to it and buy this...
Free postage too.

She has ordered one of them. There was meant to be one in stock in our local tackle shop for £99 but she said they didn’t have any in stock but that they’ll get her one for January.
