new reels

was the RE 5000 that was a £50 quid offer a few years back, i had one, used it for a little while, thought it was cack and sold it.

Jon

I asked about front drag as I find them much fiddlier than a simple twist of the clutch adjuster underneath. Especially if the line is coming off around ones fingers.

As you say. Just a case of getting used to.

Paul. I think all you say is true, especially about the XTEA's yesterday however, a guy using the 5000 GTE's in the swim nearby who had a same problem as you mention, didn't know you have sometimes to add a little grease/oil.

Graham
Hi Graham. i was brought up on rear drag reels and i thought the same and was aprehensive about getting some front drag but i bit the bullet and got xtbs through advice on here and what a reel it turned out to be i love the front drag business now and couldnt see myself going back to rear drag again.

Wayne. I think my dislike stems probably from the "fun" element of playing fish with the line stuck behind the old Mitchell 300 front drags - such fun. Especially when you undid them and the spring "Sprung"

Stilll think the 5000 RE's (limited edition - ok seems endless supply)are great value for money.

As Graham mentioned the RE's are fantastic value for money and can be picked up cheaply new, I had one for two seasons and I used it a lot, never had a problem with the gearing, abit of grease and oil always helps during the closed season though.

Or a second hand GTE-C, but you take your chances with second hand.

Just got a pair of medium LC's,part exed a pair of 6000 GTE's,the difference in smoothnes is amazing, the GTE's were very good but no match for the LC's.I wouldnt say the 6000 GTE's were a large reel,if anything seemed a bit small,LC's look at home on the carp rods. The large single handle feels a bit awkward after the double handles, but cranking power is very good, just right for long chucks with a big lead/feeder.If you're after some second hand GTE's mine were in almost mint condition, they're in a well advertised buying/selling golf/tackle shop.
