new reels

Hi Bill do they backwind, I have the penn live liner 460 l models that don’t backwind, clutch is awesome , I also had the spools anodised black as they were gold lol.
Hi Peter,
No the Fierce II LiveLiners do not backwind, I don’t know about the new Fierce III but if you are happy with the weight of the reel I think you have the dogs danglers in the 460. I had one but found it too heavy on my rod so ended up with the Fierce LiveLiners which are a little lighter. I’ve seen a “film” on YouTube of a chap in a kayak playing a Yellowfin Tuna on a Fierce 4000LL and if I ever get a Barbel to test ‘em like that Tuna did his, i’ll be tickle pink ! my only criticism of both my Fierce LL’s and 4000OC’s (used on smaller rivers) is that the clutch is very quiet, i’m going deaf and don’t like to wear my hearing aids when I’m fishing so miss out on that great sound
Regards
Bill

Hi Gaz
I know what you mean about the drag but I still love these reels.
Have you considered speaking to Felindre and see if there is anything they can do?
Its been a while but I am sure they did something different on mine while I was getting some serviced and it did make it much smoother and less ' grabby'
Graphite powder on the drag washers improves rear drag systems 100%. It’s the only lubricant I know of suitable for the clutch washers. Never wet lube!

I did my 5010’s yearly for more than 15 years and while not quite as perfectly responsive as a system that’s working directly from the spool they were pretty dam close.
the problem behind rear drag systems is the washers slightly sticking and the cause is because everyone leaves them under compression. Every one likes to leave their drag set exactly where they like it and you can’t do that with rear drag models if you want them to perform at their very best. Backing them right off after every session and a yearly light dust in graphite powder would definitely see more specialist anglers sticking with rear drag models.

gaz, you need these babys
