Hi all,

Moved south last year from Glasgow. Started Barbel hunting in July. Still learning a lot.

Heading to the Trent next week for 3 days, to try and catch my first double.

Unsure of stretches yet but I'll give it my best go.

Steve

Hi Steven, where exactly have you moved to ? Lots of guys on here could offer advice, with a bit more on location/information, don't be shy to ask. 👍

P.S. As a starting point, don't set your targets too high, just be thankful that anything comes along, a double is a fish of a lifetime to many on here. Just enjoy whatever you catch. And keep us updated with anything you do. Good luck, and welcome to BFW.

Hey Derek,

I've moved to Darlington, and I'm currently a member of Leeds and District club, I've had a decent amount of success out the Ouse. Maybe 8-10 fish in my first year, to 6.11lb.

I'm not sure which stretch to target on the Trent. I understand a double is a fish of a lifetime. I'm genuinely ecstatic with every Barbel I catch, even the 2-3lb one's out the Northern rivers. But I will take your advice and. make sure I remain that way.

I'm thinking Gunthorpe Stretch and A1 this coming week, so any advice on catching any fish would be very appreciated

Here's me with my current PB of 8lb on the nose from Bob's Island in August.

Welcome mate….that’s what I like to see a big smile for a decent fish👍

Hi Steven, keep at it and I'm sure youll end up breaking that pb on the Trent in no time at all. Especially if you're planning on targeting them areas 😉

Best of luck pal. I'm from Shropshire and based around the middle Severn where doubles are rare so I always appreciate the 7 and 8lbers. They will always be good sized fish to me.

Ps. If you're in to football I hope you follow the green side of Glasgow and not the blue 😂👍🍀

So had my trip,

Day 1 Gunthorpe Weir

Fished the first peg on the beach. Handful of small chub and lost a good fish to the rocks.

Day 2 A1 pits

Absolutely rammed full, squeezed on a peg with a bit of room. Small Chub 2nd cast, then a 7.6lb barbel around 6 pm. Had 2 more small fish and chub to 4.5lb through the night. Called it about 3am.

Might try squeeze in another day/evening trip on Tuesday. But it'll be a last minute decision. Can't go to A1 as will need to leave about 9pm. So might try and find another stretch where I can fish into darkness and leave.

Hi Mate
You have a lot of good water with the Leeds book - especially on the Swale - IMHO far more rewarding to work out a few stretches than follow the crowd
A Swale double is still a pretty special fish - a good but achievable challenge
You’ve also obviously got the Tees on your doorstep- tough for barbel but they are there and when they turn up they are very special

Also the Derwent, Ure, Wharfe, Nidd even the Hull throws a few good fish
You’ll drive pass most of these on the way to the Trent
Best of luck
