NEW John Baker website

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently started designing and developing third party websites and have recently finished a new one for John Baker, the bait specialist.

John is back on the bait scene with some new products, and lots of his trusted favourites.

Here’s the website, complete with online shop:

http://www.johnbakerbaits.com

Cheers,

Andy F

Andy,

It's great news that John is fit and healthy again and that the company is back up and running, would have been better if Glynn were still there too but hey ho JB Baits are back :D

Just pleased to hear that John is now ok and up and running again:)

Though John's baits have been a little thin on the ground in the tackle shops, he has been selling to those who've managed to contact him.
I dare say that his new barbel base mix might possibly be a rebadged mix that he sold privately, it's undoubtedly a good mix though.

I notice that he hasn't got any cheaper :pIts

Good to see John back in the frame and I'm sure his bait will catch a few. By the way, if his packaging/advertising still tells you to throw all your unused bait into the river - please don't. This was, I'm suspect, a ploy to get you to spend more money on his products but nowadays there are so many barbel anglers out there, it is just a little inconsiderate and totally unnecessary. A good boilie will catch from the off and if his baits are that good, loads of people will be using them rendering mass prebaiting unnecessary.

I should say Andy, you've done a really nice job there.
A real good looking and clean-cut website.

Glad he is back too, I was until very recently been using/testing the Teme Severn baits exclusively last season, with some excellent results, but now things have changed on their team, I was looking out for some fresh ideas for the coming season, this has come at the right time I think!;)

How come your not going to be using Teme-Severn next season Julian?

Surly if there baits are as good as everyone keeps saying, you'd continue to use them..............

Just curious;).

Jb all the way.
All our barbel from the arrow days were caught with either jb ala salar flavoured meat or biocrab base mix made into paste mixed with a little of the crab flaour.me and my other half tried the teme 7 lamprey after attending barbel society bash in birmingam as the stand owner asked what we used we told him and he said his t7 biats would outfish jb 10 times ten times he said.we threw the stuff away did nowt for us,we only wanted to give it a try as we are also fans of ccmoores xxx,but the t7 did nowt at all.

Great looking site. Fantastic job Andy.

I guess I'm one of the few that have always found JB baits over priced and over hyped.

Tried a few times but generally caught far better on boilie/paste testing with Chris Roadnights, Yatelys or Glyns Baits. Pellets, though from Teme Severn baits.

Good job we are all a bit different. Gives the fish some variety.

Graham,

You're not the only one, i am treally glad to see that John is back to health but never rated his baits particularly above others, I too prefer Glynn's ready mades or my own made with nutrabaits ingredients/bases

Hi men ,

Nice to see him on the scene . In the late 70 / early 80,s I was using a couple of his flavors in my base mix , and along with G Kemp was at the start of the whole bait scene .

What's the matter Steve, a bit miffed because you were never invited to test them? :p:D

You should know me better than that Ade.

Been there and got the t-shirt.

Having field tested numerous baits in the past, I very soon came to realise that most 'designer' baits catch anglers much more than they do fish......

In fact I'd go as far to say that the bait, any bait, is way down on the list of my priorities when it comes to catching Barbel..... which lets be honest, will eat just about anything we care to throw at them.

Still, if your a field tester, I suppose you have to sing the praises of a particular brand, to keep getting it cheep............ regardless what you really think:confused:

:p

Yours forever,

Stevo

I'm not a bait tester Steve, however if I was then, "getting it cheap", would not be a reason for continuing to use a bait I thought was ****, my fishing time is too precious for that.
I'm actually still using all that stuff I bought when we were at the auction in B/north 12 months ago. I am getting near the end of it now though and as luck has it there might just be another opportunity for a cheap supply coming up.;):D

Keeping things on track, I also tend to think JB's baits are a bit overpriced, the good thing about them though is the confectionery flavours do smell nice so if you end up in the pub after a few hours on the bank you won't have to stand alone near an open window because of the usual fishy stench. :D

CONFIDENCE thats all.I agree slightly overpriced but nothing that savage, though taking a look at ANDYS new site[nice one andy]some of those prices are a little over and doing no one any favors.

Mick.

Used JB stuff myself a fair bit of some of the Thames tribs..... Never did that well on it either.

I wasn't insinuating that you were a field tester Ade, I was simply saying that most field testers are simply mouth pieces and cheep advertising for the bait companies.
Most of the 'field testing' has been done way before the majority get their hands on it.
They then simply get it at a discount and tell all who will listen, how good it is and how many Barbel/Chub/Carp/Bream (delete where appropriate) they will catch.......

God I'm getting cynical (synical) in my old age...............

Take it from me that I am not a field tester of John Baker's, but I wouldn't be in a rush to write off what he has to offer.
This would most likely be confirmed by any number of people but John's baits have played a massive part in the history of big barbel fishing. I believe I am right in saying that his 'Taste4' mix is closely related to those mixes used with great success on the Ouse. Whilst not wishing to negate any anglers skill, that such a bait was nigh on impossible for fish to ignore cannot be debated.
When I was getting my bait from John a while ago I could have sworn that I was fishing a different stretch to those whom I were speaking, such were their results. This on a fishery where they'd largely seen it all.

Personally speaking I would find it hard to question John's philosophy of sourcing the best quality and using the freshest of ingredients, and would certainly place them higher than others I have used in the past.
