New here and on a mission

Hi all. New to the forums and glad to be here!

Many moons ago I used to be obsessed with the whiskers and now I'm laying plans to giving my life ( as much as the wife tolerates) over to these wonderful fish again. This place seemed like a good start!
I used to fish mainly on the Wharfe in Yorkshire and has some limited success but I was more than often leaving happy if I just caught a chub! Made a few pilgrimages to the Trent too and had a lot of good times but life happens and suddenly its 20 years without getting a line wet.

Nowadays I'm a bit further east and my local river will be the Yorkshire Derwent. I know its probably not going to be easy but I'm determined to find some spots and catch some barbel in my limited time off.

Ive given my wallet to the guys at the tackle shop and have a barebones roving kit again so now the scouting walks on the bankside begins. Hope to get to know a few of you and catch the odd Barbel on the way.

Too far narf for me, but welcome James

Morning James,
Along with a few really good guys on here I mainly fish the Derwent. There are several clubs with stretches holding barbel. Most between Kirkham and Sutton on Derwent.
Now temperatures are dropping, they will get harder to tempt, but still worth a try whilst daytime temps are in double figures. But the chub will still be obliging whilst you check out spots for next season.
Good luck for the future and may see you on the bank some time.

Thanks for the welcome and good to hear from someone on the Derwent! I went for a york book and the closest stretch for me is between Stamford bridge and Kexby so whether its any good or not I'm likely to give that stretch a good look first. Howsham looks interesting though too.

Morning James.
Howsham is very popular. A few years ago you could go there in summer and almost guarantee to get one of two. But some idiots posted pictures on Facebook and after that it got hammered. There are still some good barbel there, but I would suggest you leave it for the first few weeks of the season and then go in the week if you can. This time of the year it will be quiet and has some great chub.
Below Stamford Bridge, park at the water works and walk down stream for about 15 minutes ( roughly opposite Catton ). You will find some nice spots, it's lightly fished and known for some good fish.
