New eyes or new rods

Cheers for the replies lads just got back from the trent had 5 out so not bad 👌 I'm going to finish this season with them and someone has mentioned the ceramic inserts I think I might have a go of installing them sounds ideal

I’m not sure that would work.
The reason being those knock off minima guides on the Korum rods are designed to be used without an insert. It’s a radius on the edge for your line to sit against with the minimum of contact.
If you remove an insert from a guide that was designed to have an insert, these are flat edged on the steel inside diameter.
Also it’s going to be really difficult getting the right sizes. A guide is measured by the outer diameter of the insert which is fine if your replacing an insert but I wouldn’t know what size insert would be correct to fit into a guide like yours that would measure up differently.

I probably haven’t explained all that very well but the point being….. I have a feeling that it’s not going to be as straightforward as putting inserts into insert less guides

This isn't the first time I've seen someone mention issues with the Minima style guides on korum rods

But the big waters were meant to seaguide branded guides so I'd have expected a little better quality from them?

I guess if the blanks were worth it then you could have new guides fitted but then in my eyes they are Korum so definitely not worth the hassle.

If you like the rods I would encourage you to try reringing yourself. Tons of guidance on YouTube. I need an illuminated magnifying glass to do it neatly but other than that the only difficult bit is rotating the rod as the epoxy dries. But you can probably manage with a suitable number of thin coats of varnish and a bit of rotating by hand instead of epoxy and motorised rotation. I use A grade thread for a fine finish but D grade is thicker and probably easier to use.

Result with 5 thin coats of varnish 1 hour between coats, admittedly continuous rotation but if the coats are thin enough I think it would be possible to achieve the result with a occasional rotation by hand until the varnish is set enough not to run.

Result with epoxy, 1 coat took about 6 hours drying ( it was cold) with continuous rotation, rotation with a repurposed microwave turntable motor.
The gold thread is a different colour, it is not an effect of the coating.
