New Dawn Rods

Hi
has anyone any experience of these rods?
I have just bought a pair!
Not arrived yet.
Any information would be good. Looked on Google and cant find anything relating to a 1.75 T/C?

Saw these on ebay. Purported to be harrison blanks.......

I believe they are refurbished rods with possibly a new name......bit similar to Daiwa

If they are Harrison blanks or Century yes.

If they are the ones on ebay I saw that were described as I mentioned above, bit concerned.

Personally I don't like full duplon handles, but if you are fine with that and they feel right and look right. You have got a deal.

Nothing about the barbel rods under the 'Products' section of the website, except for a name drop on the 'About New Dawn' section. If they're Century blanks you should be ok, though duplon doesn't do it for me either.

It just sounds as if they're a small team of rod builders peering out into the world for the first time and trying to make a name for themselves. Nothing wrong with that, I say. Good luck to them. And I hope the rods live up to your expectations. :)

i took some comfort from reading this

For the specimen hunter we have all manner of rods including being the only specialist rod builders to custom build the new Century Barbel rods which in our opinion is a superb all round barbel rod which will take some beating, ask Trefor West if you do not believe us.

collected the rods and they seem very nice indeed :) BUT I am suspect of the Test Curve.
Is it possible to check this with scales or are weights needed?
I know you need the rod horizontal then the tip to point to the floor for the Test Curve reading.
I am also quite aware that Test Curve does not mean as much as people think as the action will be more important in your choice of rod for specific fishing conditions.
I personally love through action rods for river fishing when not near snags ;)
I do have the Martin Bowlers for flood and heavy feeder work.

I have just purchased a second hand mint Drennan twin tip barbel rod, it has a full Duplon handle and I was wondering why a good number of folk dislike Duplon?

Is it too spongy, not as tactile as cork?

All my other Barbel rods have full cork, so I have had nothing to compare, although I have had Duplon handles on other rods.

Other than that I am looking forward to christening it tomorrow, although not confident really :rolleyes: But the blank is superb I believe, and I do like Drennan rods.
 
I think its just horses for courses, I like most including abbreviated and cork.

I think its just personnel preference. abbreviated cork can look the dogs but its all down then to tackle tartness, I bought these new Dawns because I think they might be on a full action blank and there the correct length although I prefer 11fts there are times when 12s are needed ;)

Fishing for me commences on Sunday morning, cant wait.

If that's all it is then that's OK then, I would hate to think the rod slipping out of my grasp doing battle with a new Severn record Barb:)

Looking better for next week with the temps, might be the trigger to get 'em feeding.

Neil, I own a pair of these and they are a dream to use. I too dont mind the duplon handle, cork is nice but the mice love it in my garage!!:mad:

Cheers for that Patrick, I have had trouble with mice in the garage in the past too,think I was the only guy with a Champagne (cheap mind) ,cork that was the butt stop to my all glass carp rod.:)

I have had to pack all my soft gear into sealed boxes, Ive also sprayed peppermint oil over various places in the garage. Its reputed to keep the little blighters away. Working so far!!!
 
I have the same problem...with an extra twist. I use air dried boilies as bait for my traps, and if the mice are not quick enough, humongous slugs eat the boilies without setting the traps off :eek: It seems they use their rasping tongue to wear the boilies down, and they can do it surprisingly quickly. For a long time I thought I had some very educated mice, seeing the empty traps with bait missing....but then the significance of the silver trails everywhere dawned on me, so I went back at night and caught them at it. Does anyone know of a combination mouse/slug killer :D

I can't be naffed in this weather to drag the veritable mountains of gear out to survey the damage...but I think it may be tearing hair out time when I get round to it. I wonder if the now homeless Pope will have need of a holy bivy?

Sprinkle a little salt around the trap Dave, that will keep the slugs away. Not to much though just enough to keep them off.
Another good trap is to get some oil that you have cooked bacon in, put it in a deep bowl with a boilie as bait and allow them to be able to get into the bowl via a small wooden ramp or similar. They will be able to get in but not out.
Other than that its setting up an O.P with a .410 or air rifle depending on the legality.
