I use the lock and slide olivettes Ed, easier to move. But not avail for 8gr up.

I prefer the lock and slide too. However, I took to using the bigger sizes when fishing for tench on a deep stillwater with big wagglers. Whilst I'll sometimes let them free run, I found that a floats stop above and below were handy for fixing them in place or allowing a limited free run.
