Net

Hi guys
I’m after a new net. I want one I can fold and not a pan. Any recommendations, I was looking at the wychwood quickfold?
Thanks

  • Fish-friendly mesh
  • Reinforced spreader block
  • Folds up for easy transport

Do Fox still do their barbel net?
I've had mine so long that I can't even remember the year I bought it.

Not a lot you can say about a net really, but it's the one I've had the longest that doesn't have any holes in it apart from those meant to be there. Snagged it, ripped it through brambles and hawthorns, dropped lit ciggies on it..the thing is indestructable. Must be kevlar mesh or something ;-)
I don't do pan nets at all, so this Fox folder has been absolutely perfect for me. Small enough to fit in a bankstick pocket, doesn't rot when packed away wet and not given a dry, and more importantly, survived everything I've thrown at it without a single rip or hole.

But, I don't know if they still make them and can't be bothered to look. If they do, well, I bought mine in the very early days of Fox branching out. These days, probably sweatshop labour and substandard quality.

Though not cheap, the Drennan Specialist Landing Nets are worth a good coat of looking at. However, much depends on whether the depth of them meets with your approval. I suspect that many barbel anglers, that are used to the smaller carp nets, are likely to think they are too shallow. The 32" is proportionally shallower than the 36" version.

DRENNAN SPECIALIST LANDING NET HEADS
Available in two sizes, both featuring high modulus carbon arms that slot neatly into a lightweight, but extremely strong, spreader block complete with stainless steel screw fitting.
The smaller 32” (81cm) version has a 27” (69cm) gape at the front and 8mm mesh, while the larger 36” (91cm) option has a 31” (79cm) gape and larger 10mm mesh. This allows for faster scooping and offers minimal resistance in the flow should you be fishing a river. The mesh itself is a strong yet soft hexagonal design in an unobtrusive olive green colour.
These nets have been extensively tested and are the ideal companion to the Drennan Super Specialist Twistlock and Compact Twistlock Handles.Features: 32” (81cm) and 36” (91cm) sizes High modulus carbon arms Lightweight spreader block with stainless steel screw fitting Olive green hexagonal mesh Ideal for specimen tench, bream, chub and barbel.

I have the Korum triangle net in 24 and 28" and it's a great net. A little bit deeper than most others of the same size and for a reasonable price. They seem to withstand quite a lot of battering as well. Cannot recommend enough.
