Nasty Looking Wounds

What i find a bit concerning is that with recent catches on the Tidal Trent the majority of fish caught, including the bigger ones, are showing puncture wounds in some form or another.

I had 8 betweem friday night and sunday morning all near enough immaculate mate. Including one 10lb barbel all were fin perfect

Out of five fish caught yesterday,4 had a single puncture wound to a flank which measured approx a quarter of an inch which would suggest Black Death.

I don't think any of those wounds look to be obviously one thing or another, they certainly don't look very clear, is it a snaggy area? They could have been caused originally by a fish being tethered in a snag or by an angler dragging it through a snag. The wounds are very infected and the original injuries are pretty much masked by that.

The single puncture injuries are possibly lamprey wounds or heron stabs as Ray said, I think I am right in saying that cormorants do not produce a "Stab" type wound as they have blunt beaks, i.e. the top beak is rounded over the bottom one, cormorant damage is normally in the form of scrapes on the flanks.
