Most memorable session ever

About 20 years ago i was fishing in India,me Dave plummer,John Wilson(not the John wilson) and a guide,Syth decided to fish about a mile below the camp on the opposite side in an area called 'Croc rocks'.We took two coracles over the river from the camp, leaving one coracle on the opposite side.We sent Syth downstream with the other coracle,(in case a fish got snagged up)whilst we walked down. After fishing for about an hour some of the lads fishing the camp side opposite us 120yds away started shouting across at us but we were too far away to hear what they were saying,we gave them two fingered salute's and carried on fishing.Just on dark a branch was snapped about 50 yds away,a herd of elephants were coming along the bank. This is what the lads had been shouting about,(we found out later). You do not argue with Elephants but we had the smallest coracle,2 twenty plus stone and one 16 stone angler, tackle and a guide with 120 yards of crocodile infested water between us and safety. That trip across the river after dark still frightens me,there was about 1 inch between the water and the top of the coracle,Dave whispered "do not even breathe".Syth rowed that coracle expertly and we made it to the other side. With great relief we hopped ashore. Now comes a bad bit, as i got out i noticed a big lump of Elephant dung near the edge and in the darkness i said to Syth "someone dropped the ragi "(which we were using for bait) and he picked it up before realising what it was,we all started laughing,Syth got a few beers that night.

Ah....now that is a PROPER story Mark, and a corker at that. I too have had a couple of run ins with elephants while abroad, but nothing fishing related. People usually view elephants as big, benign creatures, sort of gentle giants, and at times that can be true. However, as you know, that very much depends on circumstances...and at other times, they are not nice at all :D.

You must get round to writing your experiences down Mark, I can see another 'Crazy River' in the making if you set your mind to it.

Cheers, Dave.
