Mitchell Avorunner size

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy one of these reels but none of my local (ish) tackle shops stock them. Going by weight the 5500 would seem ideal for my purposes, sitting as it does somewhere between the Shimano 4000 OC and XTE-A. However, does anyone know how it compares in size to the two Shimano reels?

Thanks,

Dave

Hello Dave,
I have been using these for about 3 years and have had no problems at all. I use the 3500 size which I find plenty large enough as they will take 200 mts of 10lb line, and I use them on the Severn, tidal Arun, H. Avon, as well as smaller rivers.

I had the 3500s for a few seasons. I liked them a lot.

For the Thames in flood with large open feeders or grippers with 6oz upwards I found them a little small though. Same for trying to reach some of the far side swims in standard flows.

If you fish the big rivers, especially in flood then I'd certainly go for the 5500s. I'd also look for the Mk2s which irons out some of the foibles of the original models.

I've got the mk2 3500 and it is a lovely reel for the price.

Thanks for the info. Not seen or heard a bad thing about them.

How big is the 3500 V2 then? Again, if it can be compared to my Shimano 4000 OC and 5000 XTE-A that would help.

Thanks,

Dave
