Missed bites

Funnily enough, I was fishing for barbel on the Dove the other night and caught two chub - 6lb 7oz and 5lb - using 3ft hooklengths with a boilie on the hair. So, it happens, even if unintentionally. As has been suggested, yours are probably line bites. One other possible factor; do you check your hooks for sharpness before each cast?

I would have though that a bigger hook was the first port of call, a 12 seems rather small for 12 to 14 mm baits. i would have gone for an 8, if still missing them try a bigger
