Mill Tackle on and off the rod Centrepin Protectors

In this world of expensive, hand made, well engineered centrepin reels or maybe a vintage cherished example, or perhaps a well used 1960's heirloom, the one thing that they all need is robust protection, So I discussed this with Centrepin guru Garry Mills of Mill Tackle a few weeks ago and we came up with a few options and we decided on our choice and here it is, simple, purpose made centre pin protection cases, where reels either on the rod or in the bag can be protected at all times.

At £14.99 + P&P is a small price to pay for our "prized pins".

My advice is get you orders in quickly to Mill Tackle as they are selling fast, what a superb bit of kit they are!

It’s a no brainer. Has nobody come up with this simple idea before then?
I assumed you could get these in much the same way you can get good quality ones for fixed spool reels.

The answer to your question is yes Richard. I’ve been using neoprene covers which were sold for fly reels, loads on eBay, I use these on my Rapidex’s and i’ve also got some designed for Penn fixed spool reels which host my 4.25” Purists. Neither have the gusset but being neoprene easily stretch over the reel and fix round the rod handle.

Have been using the Cotswold ones that combine tip and butt protectors on elastic for 3 or 4 seasons,no problem.

I’m going mad!!! The covers on my Rapidex’s DO have gussets, it’s the Penn ones that don’t 😳

I just use a fleecy sock that stretches over the reel when its on the rod, doubled back it gives a really good soft protective cover for roaming , prevents the reels from getting unravelled , or knocked on fences etc, it just slips into my pocket , takes up very little room, no velcro to catch on anything .
One pair of socks does two reels , plus you can use them as handwarmers when not on the rods.

If you are a person who likes “Brands” you could go online and find some socks with a fancy name that cost as much as the custom made reel covers, or do what I do and use some Craghoppers finest at about a fiver a pair.

Hi Lawrence
Are they wide enough to take the Ray Walton rollin pins?

Hi Lawrence

Yes mate no trouble at all, they do take Rays Rollin Pin...we made them to accommodate most pins, they are also water proof, the dont retain dust, grit or damp....they can be also, brushed and shook clean, we have tried to cover all aspects and eventualities...they really are a simple but effective bit of kit, they are uk made and the material is far more robust than neoprene, we tried that material in the first instance...
