Maun Valley Wensum Centrepin?

Anyone got one and actually used it in anger, as I’m considering buying one?

Not to be confused with the cheap £30 centrepin of the same name.

Superb for playing Barbel, you will not be disappointed. Check system is great if you have fast flowing water. Not expensive if you look at secondhand prices for so called Barbel pins at the moment. Had mine since late last year love it. Also use wide drum Crouch and a Pete reading. Wensum is my favourite.

Received my new pin and its a quality bit of kit, only down side is that the rachet is much firmer, when pulling line off the bottom of the reel, rather than the top of the reel (different drum turn direction), so I'll likely have to revert back to fishing lines from the bottom.

This is the complete opposite behavior to my 2 existing Speedia triple check reels and I'm a recent convert to running the line off the top of the pin, due to better thump control, when playing fish.

Neil - I have a Mill Tackle Barbel Catchers 'pin that behaves in the way you describe - which is obviously intentional, as you suggest - and more suited to line coming off the bottom. I wouldn't have thought there's an easy fix for that, however.
I also own a Speedia Deluxe but there's no 'opposite' behaviour that I've noticed. The ratchet strength seems consistent regardless of the direction of rotation. I wonder if there are two versions?

You might find it is simply a matter of rotating the pawl, but worth speaking to the man who made them for confirmation/advise.The Pawl is very one sided

I found a small issue with the reel, so I contacted Ian Rotherham, who sent me a replacement on next day delivery and told me not to send back the original, until I’d received the replacement and was 100% happy.

The reel arrived today and it’s perfect, including the ratchet, which is consistent both ways.

Cannot fault the customer service and communications, first class!

Apparently he’s just taken delivery of a new batch too, in silver colour, so worth keeping an eye on the website.

Ah, so the ratchet feature wasn't intentional, as it is on the Barbel Catcher. Great news that you received a replacement so promptlyl, Neil. Excellent customer service.

I have 2 of these build quality is first class (as an engineer I know a bit about this kind of thing ).
Not had a chance to use them yet, but have one rigged up ready on my Stalker rod for the new season. Will report back once they’ve been used in anger !
