Mainline Cell

Stopped using mainline when they ditched Activ-8 and Assasin-8 but Cell does have a reputation in carping circles . . .however its not a food bait and is designed to 'get through' the system quickly; part of its success IMO is simply the sheer volume that gets flung into lakes country wide and not its makeup - whilst I'm sure barbel would happily eat it (they'll eat anything) there are better baits out there . . .and for a lot less £

Personally I think that’s how most decent baits work .
It’s not the quality but the quantity that gets thrown in .
I remember fishing a carp syndicate in the mid nineties and one rota were using Mainline Grange whilst the other rota were using fish meals birdfods etc
By July it became very hard to get a bite on anything but Grange .
I changed over to Grange and my season just took off , no matter how you presented it or where you placed it just seemed to get bites .
But there are quality baits out there now that just seem to work wherever you take them , John Bakers flavours and base mix’s are doing that for me right now , some days naturals might out fish them, But overall they’ll take the lions share of the bites .

In my experience a decent bait / recognised food source will catch irrespective of whatever else has been thrown in . . .however as you state if enough of a particular bait is applied it can and eventually will dominate . . . . until it blows of course. IMO the cell is akin to a McDonalds; designed to be addictive will little health benefits but edible if its always present, an easy meal - whereas other quality baits (eg your JB gear) is a prime marbled steak with a red wine and garlic jus and all the trimmings!
