Hi have 3 nights booked here beginning August and have never fished the wye before just wondering what tactics to go for so I can have everything sorted before I go. Is it very snaggy/rocky braid or mono best? Also is a maggot/caster/hemp approach advised or pellet/groundbait I know it depends on the day but just wanna make sure I'm as well equipped as poss for a good wkends fishing! Cheers in advance for any replies-matt

Fished it for the first and only time during the first week, I used block end feeder with 4mm pellets and varied between pellet and boilie on the hook. Hook lengths 3' plus as recommended to me. Had 10 barbs and 2 chub so seemed to work ! The river was fishing well at the time.

Been there many times, sometimes fishes brill, sometimes its slow if the waters low and have to wait till dark for them to start feeding sometimes.I did well on pellet and groundbait feeder, the very last hole is a good one, seems to be a deep hole there ,its a beautifull site we go there every year.

caravan stretch fishes better in evening time with some colour, groundbait feeder with hemp/pellet .boilie and pellet are good . get bed of bait out to get em feeding.Good pegs down sream with faster water too ..good luck ..:)

Cheers for the replies really looking forward to it now, would a torrix 1.75 and 10lb mono be ok or do i need to up the strength?

Youre not supposed to but i allways have,i dont think many bother with the day tickets either as never seen anybody checking them.

Mark do yourself a favour and abide by H & D rules and purchase a day ticket you are not allowed to night fish on a day ticket and this rule is enforced

No problems Paul nothing wrong with clarifying rules thanks everyone for the info hopefully in a months time I'll be bent into some wye barbel!

Don't know what the crack is here, pay yer ticket and licence etc.

Day time have a wander down the site over to the wild field past kayak centre, double or large swim to sit 300 yds away, caravan site is very steep check them through the day you may apreciate the recon.

Enjoy the rest, great campsite etc

I allways pay for my ticket, the sad fact is when theres a stretch of river near a holiday park lots of people just fish it,i bet most dont even have an EA license either, same as the BAA stretch near holt fleet, baliff there told me catches loads of the caravan site without a permit. This place could really do with some big signs up saying no fishing without permit along the stretch. The day ticket for here also cover for a stretch just up the road by where the lugg joins the wye, gona try that this year + a stretch on the lugg at severn stoke on my club ticket.

Cheers Adam and mark always good to have as much info as poss I think to stand a good chance of having a few, are the stretches you mention on the same ticket as campsite (h&daa)? It mentions on their website about there being 2 other fields so can I rove the whole stretch on 1 ticket or is it separate for each beat/field?

The ticket covers you from the campsite shop right the way down stream for 2 meadows, basically till you come to a hedge which stops you walking any further.
