Luck or Skill....?

THE 'done to death' attitude may account for the large amount of members who have never posted for fear of upsetting the old guard on this forum.I have lots of questions to ask but prefer to find my own answers rather than feel the wrath of a certain few.
 
Just ignore us grumpy old buggers, it's mostly constipation which is the root of all our misery. That and the certain knowledge that in most cases our best years are behind us and if only we had known then what we know now..........Bla Bla Bla...........
 
Some folk, to all intents and purposes, have two. The same product comes out of both anyway, so you have to assume they are the same thing.

I think your post reflects a lot of conversations I have had during a back end of the season get together with some of the other anglers that fish the same stretch as me, and its rather worrying.

They tell me that they regularly visit BFW and enjoy many of the threads. Now these are a good bunch of lads, with a lot of experience to potentially share with others, but when I ask why they do not contribute they tell me that they feel intimidated by some of the"Old Guard" and are put off by this.

Now these are just a small group, but if this feeling is representative then how many more people who visit BFW feel the same. There have been some cracking replies to my initial post and I am sure there are loads of anglers who want to share their views as well but they are put off by what they perceive as a small clique of keyboard experts.

So, the question is how can we encourage more people to post?

I totally agree Richard, and not just on here but in general a certain few tend to think post counts area badge of honour or rank system, quite how some of these people have time to fish is beyond me, though with modern phones nowadays you can access the net pretty much anywhere.

One does think they have more issues than they let on.

I remember when I first joined and I was commenting on a post. I was just passing on a few of my own thoughts on the subject. I then had Adrian Williams private messaging me being rather abrasive. Since then I do not get involved. No point when idiots like that are just out to make irrelevant comments. A shame really as its generally such a good site.
 
I have no record of any PMs I sent you, would you mind bouncing it back to me to refresh my memory and perhaps put it into context?

Please don't start fighting with people again...the last time this happened a really good thread got locked. As many people have stated that they are enjoying this discussion it would be a shame if it got locked again.

I think you can stack the odds in your favour by doing lots of different things, fishing out the back of a bed of bait, feeding two beds of bait, one large one small and fishing over the small one, baiting up regularly using a quality bait, refining your rigs, fishing at different times to others (very early mornings can be good), being extremely quiet, etc etc. Big fish are definitely harder to catch but that doesn't mean they don't sometimes slip up to total beginners or crude approaches. When fish are hungry and conditions are favourable, they're all easy to catch.
