As above any suggestions needs to be capable of casting 8oz leads and also 12ft 2 piece.
Been looking at the Fox fx specimen???

depends how much you want to spend, i wanted a infinity but went for a mr lumb Chimera 3, great rod.

wayne, it might be hard to get 2.25 lb tc rods, i manage to get two for myself, they were carp rods though, ?????

The current Fox barbel range includes a 2.25/1.75 twin tip barbel. The FX Specialist is 2.75lb. Korum Twin Tip is 1.75/2.25lb. Daiwa Infinity and Theory have 2.25lb versions. Wychwood Maximiser is available, where it is still available as it appears to be discontinued, as a 13' 2.5lb.

Shouldn't you know all this stuff?;):D:p

Not to fish with though...right?;)

Not fished the Trent, but have fished big rivers. Do you really need an 8oz lead? just curious. :)

Waynes on the Tidal mostly and 6 - 8oz is the norm for some , you can get away with 4oz in places but as you can imagine the tides can dictate that , I use Daiwa Twilight 2.25lb ones can cast 8oz when I need to but considering their cheap price the have a great playing action and never let me down , you also get a quiver section with a 3oz tip that is great for using when either using maggot feeder or upstream legering as they show drop backs brilliant , I was doubly lucky as got a pair of a mate for £50

8oz is a hell of a weight to cast properly as opposed to a firm lob.If the Fox Specimen at 2.75lb isn't suitable how about a Martin Bowler 2.25lb made by Drennan,or if money is really irrelevant how about a 2.5lb Torrix or a Chimera 3.However you wouldn't be able to properly cast that weight with any of them I wouldn't have thought.Maybe a fast taper beachcaster would fill the bill.Good luck with your search Wayne,I'm interested to know what you choose.

Funny one this, I have fished the Trent is some floodwater conditions, and never ever needed more than 6 oz, and that was pushing it.... I also do a .....lot ....of rock and beach fishing, and use tournament rods designed to cast 6 oz plus, into a boiling sea with a hell of a tow on,and strong side winds, well in excess of anything I can imagine the Trent throwing at you.. maybe one of these would do you...

Anyfish Anywhere Tournament beach fishing rods

Still, if you need a scaffold pole, I am sure that you could find one somewhere..

Good luck. ;0)

look lads not been funny but if you havnt fished the tidal trent correctly please dont comment, im not a stupid angler and know what i need but would like to see what people recommend.

Last year i bought 2 15ft fox xtreme 2.75 tc which i can clear the trent with a 6oz feeder at 70mm long crammed with bait, so please dont tell me theres nothing out there that will do the job i want!!!!!!!!!!

I could use some advise on this as well for my trips to the Trent.

Nigel, I think Wayne is being mischievous and fishing for bites with this thread :D Either way, with one of the rods he mentioned, you could probably land three 16lb fish in one go :D

Not that I know anything about fishing the fat end of big rivers :p

Cheers, Dave.
