What do you recommended Adrian?
Seeing as you ask Clive for summer stalking I generally don't bother or I'll cut a forked stick from a bush.
For general use I use the Dinsmore spiral points and if I'm fishing the Trent with it's rocky banks I use a cheap £10 sea fishing tripod which I have modified to take my Optonics and replaced the two fixed length rear legs with a couple of Fox storm caps so I can screw a couple of telescopic legs into it.
Some people complain that these are not stable but if you use it as it is designed by hanging a carrier bag from the hook under the head of the tripod and load it with a few rocks they're fine.
