Lone Angler Trefor West Chub Rod

Hi guys.

Managed to get my hands on one of these recently and had a few chevin on it. Lovely playing action & great fun to use!

The only issue I have with it, is the detachable 'Roving Ring'
It allows for a quick change quiver tip to be added & vice versa.

Upon using the roving tip, I struck at some bite indications.
The ones which didn't connect with the Chub, I noticed the removable tip would rotate around, which would allow for the rings to not be aligned, which to my mind is a poor design.

Martin James once wrote, that he'd recommend dispensing with the quiver tip section, and to superglue the roving tip in situ!

Is there any other ways of making the roving tip a tighter fit, rather than fixing it permanently?

I thought maybe a bit of melted candle wax smeared onto the end might work?

Julian 👍

Is that the tips using a 'pigtail' ring that allows quick removal?
Seen them on 'Sidewinder' indicators.
Cheers
Bob

Is this the rod on eBay a while ago? I missed it and now I know where it it.
I think you can add a bit of paper of something like that at the joint part to make it tight?

Never heard of a quick change quiver, to have that addition would be superb.
It's a great idea, and in fact my old roving Seer rods use to have them! And fitted tightly as they were better built!
I remember Jill telling me they had to outsource that part of the build to Bob 'the rod' up @ Birmingham Angling Centre or some such place to create the roving tips as they were tricky to get right. 👍

Yeah I got it off ebay. Always wanted one, so couldn't let it go. Its been a great little rod on its 1st outing. 1st chub it handled it nicely then as it dived towards the tree under my near bank my smile got wider! 🤣

Interesting Julian, Bob is a top man and reasonable in cost. I wonder if he's has some info on that? Will give him a ring, although he was working under a larger company, but still did his own thing.

Hi Bob. Its just an overfit slide on slide off tip, with a single rod eye on the end if that makes sense buddy? 😊
Yes, as a past owner of some Century Pulse rods should have remembered as used the arrangement myself on my Chimera 2's for adding/fitting quiver tips. Still got them somewhere.

Cheers
Bob

You could try a little snipped amoeba of silicone tubing to act as a mini gasket?

Is it a threaded or push in design?

Nice idea, never heard of anything like that before. Hope you find a solution!
I actually like that idea of silicone tubing Alex. Nice one! I'll have to try in the closed season! 👍😊

It looks really nice, and I was hooked by the changeable tip ring, what a great idea. But seems it doesn't work as well as it looks. Maybe you can put a wider silicone tube on the tip section first, and push the ring into it after you push it on the rod?

Think that's what I'll do mate.
But when I had my Seer Rods built there was no problems, which don't surprise me as they went over and above to build quality rods. And you certainly paid a lot of money for them.

I have about an inch of rubber sleeving on the tip that I roll over the shank of the eye . Works a treat.
Hi Anthony.

Is that rubber sleeving fitted onto the roving tip and slid back down onto the blank?

And was wondering (saves messing around) what diameter is the sleeving that you found that works for this purpose please?
It's a great idea!

Funny how literally everyone had this issue, why on earth didn't they do a proper job before selling to the public? 👍😊
