What lines would people recommend for the upper / middle Severn I'm fishing with 1.75lb test curve rods... I was thinking 10lb Solar bullet proof mono and a hook length of 8lb..... should I use fluorocarbon for my hook lengths and if so what makes

12lb main and 10lb hook length mate, pretty sure most on here use the same, I stand to be corrected 🤣

As said by Mark 12lb main and 10lb hook length I would just ordinary mono for the hook length and save some money mate

I can recommend the Gardner hydro flow line from using it, and will be trying the hydro tuff mentioned by Neil this season on the Trent and know a lot of Maxima and Daiwa sensor users who have been using it for years mate

Preston reflo 11Ib power line I use for hooklinks on the Severn ….its what I have on the double 8mm pellet rig I sent you.
Insight GR60 main line in 12Ib
If an extra snaggy swim I use 15Ib main line and hooklinks made from the 12Ib GR60

Just for balance I recently tried 12lb Synchro XT and didn’t like it.

I went back to my usual Gardner lines - Hydro-tuff most of the time.

Remember that ‘old school’ nylon lines tend to be under -rated for breaking strain eg H-T 12lb breaks at well over 15lb. In comparison Fluoro tends to be slightly over-rated. And pre-stretched stuff sold to match anglers is often over-rated too.

‘Tacklebox’ (a shop in Kent) do regular line tests and their data is very instructive.

Tim did you mean under rated for fluoro and pre stretched? Also I’m going to try the hydro tuff in 12lb for the Trent this season as I’ve been using the hydro flow and really like it, do you know how it compares? Mate Tia

No.

I meant (for example) 10lb rated Fluoro and pre stretched usually breaks at less than 10. By comparison my 10lb Gardner )gt80+) breaks at nearly 14.

I’ve never used Hudo-fro - so can’t comment.

Actually that's what I use, finer than 10lb flouro, making it much easier to tie rigs, and about £7 for 100 metres 😀
