Some of the stuff from butchers floats, beware. You can also buy luncheon meat cut off the block at the deli counter of many supermarkets. Sometimes they have it in garlic flavour.
Luncheon meat can also float as it is made up from compressed pieces of pork off cuts and some contain fat. If you dice up luncheon meat into 1cm cubes and throw a handful in you will see that some sink a lot faster than others. If the meat is diced smaller some pieces will float. Some of the stuff from butchers floats, beware.

Some brands are better than others in that respect and the same goes for the stuff sold in delis. Usually you can gauge how much fat is in it by sight. Avoid that with too much white in it. The darker, the better.
The beauty of the deli stuff flavoured with garlic is that the flavouring is throughout the meat, not just on the surface like home made flavoured meat. Similar to Garlic Spam that used to be available.

They used to sell it in Asda and the Co--op when I was over there. If you get stuck try the Polish deli shops. They should have it. Just try and avoid any with too much white marbelling. The darker the better to avoid floatersWhich supermarkets do garlic meat Clive?
