Length of hooklinks ?

Thanks Andrew, interesting points of view. Particularly the lack of spook factor with the tubing.. Though perhaps the backlead was the overriding factor.

What kind of backlead arrangement do you use?

what would your chosen hooklink length be in a small narrow river with depths of around 3 or 4 ft

Treffor West short links Ian Welch long links!!!!! both good Barbel anglers what they both have in common is confidence in there respective methods. In the past I have always had short links but this season decided to fish longer 2 - 3ft combi rigs (braid/heavy flouro) and my Barbel catch rate has increased by 30% and so far I have surpassed last seasons double count by 2 and still have 5 months to go. I am fishing the same stretches of water and I have spent a little less time than last season I have also noticed that the number of chub I have caught has gone down, especially those above 4lb so maybe they are spitting the bait out. I am going to try Stuarts suggestion regarding putting a shot on the braid section of my combi, which is the hook end of the link and is about 9" long
