I agree with most regrading the fact that lead core is not needed, especially with modern tungsten putty, if you use a flurocarbon leader and put a small blob of putty every couple of inches and a flying backlead 2 or three feet above the main lead, you will not pin down any better and the putty simply pulls off if it becomes snagged. In snaggy conditions you can use a large blob of putty as your back lead or an even larger lump of plasticine which will also pull off
