Discussion in 'Barbel Basics and Juniors Forum' started by Nick Cunnington, Aug 28, 2016.

  1. hoping to do some rolling meat fishing on my annual trip to the severn ,have read about wrapping lead wire around a big hook as one way ,but what width of wire should I get ,theres some on ebay ,what size and particular hooks should I use as well ? any help on this style of fishing would be most helpful.

Finer soldering wire from electrical wholesalers , thicker from plumbers merchants .Sold by the spool .

17Swg is about right if my memory serves me correctly. In any case, lead wire is easily stretched to get it to your desired thickness if it's too thick.

I bought some 0.70 mm wire from eBay and it's not heavy enough

Nick, ray walton also uses heavy metal typepaste around the shank then shrink tubes on, it works fine :)
