Korum ruckbag alternative

My Korum Ruckbag, which is several seasons old, has given up the ghost. It is still in fairly good nick but the long zip on the main compartment is knackered. I was going to just go for a straight replacement but have read some negative reports on the latest incarnation of the ruckbag and also poor customer service. I need something for short roving sessions so it needs to be compact, light, very robust and capable of clipping on an unhooking mat. Recommendations based on personal experience appreciated.

I must say I really like the Drennan specialist rucksacks I use them and there esp on for carping nice build and just does the job.

The Thinking Anglers small one is brilliant. But it is really small.

I bought the ‘pikey’ version that is sold by Saber tackle. A blatant copy. Mine was used and very cheap. EBay is full of lightly used rucksacks as people buy (unseen) the wrong size for their needs.

I bought a Drennan one as a larger option. They do 35 and 45 L sizes. They also do different models and a 45l in one model seems significantly different in size than the other model (If you get my drift). I ended up with the camo (non-specialist) one.

For my standard really short sessions I use the Saber and carry a small bucket with 2x 2 pint bait boxes in it.

I have listed my Cotswold Aquarius one on eBay as it’s sitting un used since I use the esp, I had them hand build it for me at a small fortune to meet more of my needs and make it similar to esp / Drennan thinking anglers one. It cost me about 180 quid but would part for it delivered for 100 quid if was of interest.

I have 2 aqua ruckbags, one for Barbel.and the other for other species etc. They are great, but probably more expensive than they should be.
Getting to the point now.. I was in my local AD and I had a good look at the Solar undercover ruckbag and thought they are really good and good value too. Worth a look

That’s the one I am using currently and love it you won’t go wrong, depended on how much space you need the larger one is not massively bigger.

Drennan Specialist gets my vote. Have the smaller version which takes everything I need with ease, and straps on the top for your unhooking mat.

I’m also a big fan of the Drennan rucksack, good solid build and useful external straps and clips for mats/coat etc….good internal capacity with no pointless internal pockets, just space to stash stuff!

The drennan one is nice and good quality, but after using Korum hydro bag, I found it is so convenient, you can just lay it flat on the ground and finding things is so much easier.

Had my korum bag since 2020 and Had no problem with it. I’d say it’s way betther than the last bag. Only downside I would say is straps are a little tight depending on your size but could get around that if needed

Thanks for the offer Wayne. I will probably go smaller than the 35l. I like the look of the 20l one which looks ideal for my short session roving trips.

Love my Drennan Specialist 40L - takes several Greys Klip-Lok 3.4 pint bait boxes with room to spare and is comfy to lug. Material is suitably thick and zips are good - insulated top section is great for fresh boilies / easy access to terminal bits
