Korum omega rods

These rods on launch were bigged up, big time by Korum “Best of the Best”, yet you struggle to find any angler recommendations for them. A quick search through the various Barbel Facebook page groups also reveals very little. When I was looking for some 2.25lb rods for occasional use, I considered the Omegas, but then shied away as I couldn’t find any recommendations.

And then like everything else Korum rod wise, they end up heavily discounted. It hardly encourages you to invest initially on what is described as a high end rod.

I get the impression with Korum that they place a one off large order on a far east supplier and when its sold out thats it for the range/model. The complete opposite to the likes of Drennan who can get 8+ years out of a rod range or specific model.

I think there is also a bit of snobbery about some of the Korum gear, yes they do have some real clangers in their range but also some quality gear. Rod wise I don’t know anything about the Omega range but their X Calibre range were very impressive, fast action rods that were capable of accurate distance casting with feeders for Tench etc but still a lovely fighting curve. I think Korum have a tendency to re-brand their gear regularly so they can have yet another tackle launch to keep them in the spotlight on social media! sometimes folk also assume it’s tat just because of the price or the heavy discounts…especially the older range or prefer to use what they consider proper serious brands (especially when it comes to Carp tackle) or just want the latest model out!
@Rob Linwood had some X Calibres for sale a few weeks back, maybe consider those??

Bill Walford is the owner of my Korum x-calibre rods now. 👍

12 months after launch they were discontinued.

I had the 1.25 and wouldn't have classed that blank as fast action, was quite soft and sloppy.

I had a waggle of the 1.75 and that wasn't too bad. I saw the 1.75's being sold for £47 at one point from AD, at that price you couldn't go wrong.

But I wouldn't touch any Korum gear these days and 2 seasons ago I was what you would have called a Korum 'fanboy'

I do love their fast unhooking mat and folding quivers. And blox are also good.

The glide line is also good.

But I definitely won’t use their landing net and rods.

I have a pair of the 1.75's, in the one season that I have used them they are fine - the handle's a bit slim for me but that's personal preference and build quality is OK, as said at the price you can't complain!

I had the 0.75 TC Korum Xpert rods and they were very decent blanks. Not suited to what I bought them for, but good rods none the less. The 1.75tc version also got very good reviews by some of the Tenchfishers I recall.

TBH, I rather the suspect that Xperts, Xcalibres and Omega's are the same blanks, just remarketed with a different livery. Good rods however, as you would expect given they are the same company as Preston Innovations who have a track record of making superb rods.

I bought a pair of Korum 2.5lb/12ft rods (Code : K0330023) in December 2024, for wanging big lumps of lead 20-25m out into 30ft of Lower Severn flood water whilst up to my calves in mud. They've not been tested by a big girl yet but they felt absolutely fine during half a dozen sessions. The corks/build quality is totally fine, and with costing me just £90 in total (£40 each plus £10 delivery) I'm more than satisfied with the purchase.

Folding quivers, Supalite chair (original), ruckbag (original) glide mono, bait and tackle bags and bolt/run rigs are IMO and use quality and practical tackle…and I’ll add the recent rover bag into the mix too
