Korum compact pod

just to clarify matters regarding any tripod design

go look in a photographers studio/tv set/football ground/building site/military establishment

what do you see? - tripods in every shape and form

hell, look at the landing gear of high performance fighter jets used for carrier landings - and yes, its a tripod design

i trained as an architect and the tripod was one of the biggest developments in stone age times for lifting heavy weights

because strangely its best to spread the load over three legs rather than four

in all calculation you have to ignore the actual ground conditions otherwise you need a tripod for different locations

A lot more than your obviously aware
i think i'm pretty aware of what happens on todays angling scene especially with specialist angling

but you have your views with which i strongly disagree

despite some of your 'digs' i'm not going to let things get personal

just putting forward a different perspective

I’m not having a dig Nick but open your eyes…… the barbel angling scene is absolutely as much of a fashion statement thing as the carp scene nowadays
Tripods are great….. 👍🏻
every swim on the Trent owns at least one.

i think i need to define what i consider a tripod - for me its a central boss from which there are three legs as per the amiaud pods or even the most basic cheap camera tripod

i don't consider a pod with three individual legs from a 'bar system' to be a tripod

and i think therein lies our difference?

Amiaud/Carp O are true tripods - the others are not in my opinion

as far as i know the last UK carp tripod was the Fox Eclipse (i have two but not anywhere near an Amiaud etc))

A lot of them probably ain’t actual tripods as I have seen afew with 4 legs so let’s call em sky pods and that covers them all.

it’s a massive fashion thing Nick to have a skypod if you fish the mid to lower Trent.
I absolutely get the need for a skypod in some situations but on flat grassy banks which a huge part of the mid and tidal Trent is, a pole jammed deep in the ground is the most stable secure way to do it

I'm a carp tart and I have a titanium tripod 😂 It's very light and does the job. I'd never use it in the position shown though 😅👍

in the next two weeks i'm going to be using rods at nearly that angle for roach on a water that has got a big floating weed problem

and only at 30yds max range

keep the max amount of line out of the weed and i can still use less than 1oz leads

but don't all match anglers have a 'box' or chair fitted with multiple arms/attachments much like a pod?

never seen a modern matchman using 'banksticks'
You've obviously never watched a river match then. Proper river match anglers know what banksticks are and how to use them, unlike others that fish in carp puddles. 🤣

to be honest i thought all matches these days were on commercials?

i remember the big matches on the Trent etc years ago

Banksticks on the Trent. Proof that they exist! Like a tripod, but without the rear leg and having the flexibility to move the front two legs apart when required. An improvement to the tripod really. Don't know how they compare to a sky pod because I still don't know what one is (and don't want to know).

I do have a tripod for sea fishing so I realise that sometimes they are useful.
😂🤣😁
