Oh god seriously who’s talking about a flood I am talking normal conditions
And fish always seek a slack well strange how they get caught in the flow also perhaps try fishing somewhere else I have been fishing for barbel for 45yrs now so maybe I know something about it

The bailiff used to catch on rolled meat down the members section. It's a headbanger of a place but one bite can be a very special fish . I used to chub fish it and was a member .....loads of blanks .
Lovely people that run it and it gets the juices flowing when your at the waterside ..,

Cheers Barry. I am expecting a couple of days of blanking based, on what I have read, but its the chance of a fish of lifetime that's got me biting.

For me slinging out that weight would negate any pleasure in fishing, but whatever rocks your boat.

Not sure what the difference is between say 5oz and 8oz, once you’re lobbing a big lead or a 4oz loaded feeder, you're lobbing a big weight.
 
Just as an example regarding weights I was fishing the trent at Newark on the old River last season, using 4oz on my inside rod in the slack, it stayed out for a couple of hours before I caught a chub using 15mm boilies on both rigs..
My outside rod holding well in the flow between the slack and the second crease before the main flow, and getting a good 30 minutes of fishing that crease on this particular peg using 8oz...
Then eventually debris built up in my gripstops and pulled the lead into the main flow and it was time to reel in.....
And repeat the process..
After 3hrs fishing and no bites on that rod, I clipped another 3oz lead onto my run ring , lobbed 10 yards to the same spot and got a bite after 40 mins.
And caught constantly every chuck afterwards for 5hrs.
So in that scenario would I have caught anything if I had carried on fishing with 8oz. And recasting every half hour?.
Who knows, but I had no more fish in the slack using an identical rig , apart from the weight... But caught 7 barbel in the edge of the main flow ...
I've probably caught more fish doing this in this particular peg when there's at least an extra 4ft of water on.. than on any other peg on the river!.
I think I would have needed a pound of lead in the main flow!!!!
Not all barbel will sit in slacks in floods.
I actually think in the right scenarios , more Barbel will be in the main flow activity seeking out food ...
And the same can be said for Zander...

Thank you that’s what I was trying to explain to people and you put it better the people who say barbel are always in slacks are wrong they will go to where the food is and if you need 8oz then so be it
I don’t know why people are so single minded about how other people should fish and their way is the right and only way

I really don't follow your logic. I did not call you patronising, it was the way round. So who is being woke? I am quite have a discussion but when people engage ina dogmatic, manner, Harry Enfild esq- you don't want to do like that m, bla bla. It does frustrate. I like other anglers base my tactics on what I have found works. Fishing the river Trent, Wharfe and Wye I found fishing big weights in flow of a flooded river can produce when the slacks and the gutter is not producing. So please see the threads above.
