Joining the CSAS

Richard Brown

Senior Member
Hi folks.

I was interested in joining the Civil service club for the Kennet.

Seems I have to be a friend of a member ?

Can anybody help with that ?

Thanks.

I was going to join them this season and i don't remember anything about being a friend to anyone. Is it something to do with the Kennet side of things as i aws more interested in the Thames side of the club.
Didn't join in the end.

Hi Richard,
If I remember correctly, unless you're affiliated to the civil service in some way, like being an employee or retiree for example, you'd need to be introduced by a member.I let my membership go following poor catch returns and the engineering disruption on the Kennet last season just about did it for me.There's bound to be a CSAS member on here to help you out if the membership conditions are still the same as they need members.Good luck if you decide to join.

Pete.

I believe the membership changed this last season. Full members ie civil servants etc can nominate friends to join on a full membership or anyone can join as an associate member but its more expensive.

To join as a full member however you also have to join the social club membership which is about £50 & negates the saving of the joining fee after the first year. I looked into it this year but decided against it in the end.

Pretty sure the above is accurate as I exchanged a few emails before the season stated but be good to know for sure if there are any members looking?

Also how the tench fishing is :)

The Society is currently taking on members with reductions in subscriptions for the remainder of the season. To be a full (as opposed to associate) member you do need to be a member of the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC). The club has members wiling to sponsor non civil servants as linked members of CSSC to enable them to join the Society. More information on the CSAS Facebook page and website.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Think I might stick to the RDAA and the Thatcham Club.

I am only back once a year from Sydney . My folks live in Wantage so I need to pay for the whole year to fish for 5 weeks , hope its a good five weeks.!
I miss my English river fishing very much, but things seem to have become quite different over the years I have been away. Saying that I left in 2002 and most people were already saying how bad the Kennet Barbel fishing had become.

Went to the Aldermaston Mill two years ago , not a soul there !
Still , always nice to be there on the banks of the Kennet.

Thank you very much.

I was a member for several years about 10 years ago and the fishing was fantastic, but it's a very different Kennet now to then sadly.

Hi Nick.

The Barbel fishing on the Kennet now ?
Scale of 1-10 ( 1 being bad ) how would you rate it compared to 10 years ago. I left in 2002.
