I've just changed the line from my pin from coming off the bottom, to the top. Why? Had reel problems last trip with wind. (Oh matron) It looks that if I can remember what way to reel in, it should be fine.

What way do you guys without line guards use?

Off the top for float fishing and off the bottom if ledgering. When you have to continually keep casting with a float it causes less tangles off the top,you soon get used to playing fish.Its also easier to slow the spool to hold back,your thumb breaks the reel without catching a handle.

Off the top, also makes recovery of the line on longer trots easier IMO. as you are batting away from yourself rather than towards.
