I've just changed the line from my pin from coming off the bottom, to the top. Why? Had reel problems last trip with wind. (Oh matron) It looks that if I can remember what way to reel in, it should be fine.:eek:

What way do you guys without line guards use?

Off the top for float fishing and off the bottom if ledgering. When you have to continually keep casting with a float it causes less tangles off the top,you soon get used to playing fish.Its also easier to slow the spool to hold back,your thumb breaks the reel without catching a handle.
 
Off the top, also makes recovery of the line on longer trots easier IMO. as you are batting away from yourself rather than towards.
