Tried and tested, old Daiwa Whisker 11' Kevlar rod with plug on isotope to the tip - the 'isoblob'.

Rebuilding the rod at the moment.

How does that work if you don’t mind me asking. Is there a short piece of tapered rod blank attached to the ring that overfits onto the end of the rod?

What’s the purpose of making the tip ring removable?

My isotopes are getting a bit tired (so are my eyes!), so just invested in these, not used yet but tested indoors and they a re pretty bright.

Been doing it for 20+ years on tips that were being built Richard.
Offered it as an option with the blobs in supplying both plain and blobbed tip sections where you could swap over or easily replace tips, especially in case of isotope/blob failure (which usually meant return of the rod).
Just a knot to tie - but played with ways you didn't have to do that.
Also built quiver tips using a similar method - as some Trefor West Century rods.

Similar to a fit over ferrule but in mini form.

Yes, wish I kept more of my Daiwa and Tricast rods but still got a few.

Sorry Bob I wasn’t dissing the idea at all it’s just my inquisitive mind wanting to know more regarding what makes it work and what the purpose was.

I totally get that now ….yes … far far less hassle to send back a little jiffybag than a whole rod section. Makes perfect sense.
Have you thought about taking the idea 1 step further and making it possible to store the unused tip ring inside the cork butt section?

I love the idea but I know I’d end up losing the one I wasn’t using unless I could keep it inside the rod itself

No problem Richard - Actually done that a few times - use the cavity inside the rod just front of the butt cap providing the inside diameter of the blank is sufficient. If not time for an alternative.

I see , I don’t think I could heat shrink on , on a built rod . I’d have to cut the heat shrink tubing to get it over the tip eye .

You need to remove the tip ring to do it. Most of them will come off after applying some gentle heat to soften the glue, slide the shrink tube on and add the isotope, shrink it and replace the tip ring, heating it to melt the glue again. If the tip ring won’t stick when you put it back on, use a sliver from a hot melt glue stick in it and heat it.
I say most, because I have a pair of Free Spirit Specialists I never could get the tip rings off no matter how much I tried. Goodness knows what they were glued on with but I eventually ended up cutting them off and replacing them.
