Hi All,
I’m having a rod built by Bob, I was thinking of adding an Isoblob, i have never seen one in use and would like some feedback on them before I have it made.

There a must if doing nights,stops the hassle of getting tangles around the standard isotopes. I'd go for thelarge size.
 
I think I am right in saying that Bob uses Muddy Waters isotopes, which are about as bright as isotopes get. However, no isotope of this sort are as bright as some of the chemical 'Starlite' type indicators. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, as a lot of people find the chemical versions much too bright. The only way you won't see a Muddy Waters isotope on the end of your rod is if you are asleep :D

Don't even think about ordering a rod without one - would be my advice.


Through a lot of trial and effort and experiment I have handcrafted something for my other rods. Not quite to the same level of craftmanship of Bob's of course but 100% better than the alternatives ;)

could anyone offer some advice on making/fitting some my self please?

i already have the rods (shop bought as i cant stretch to customs) and having tried isotopes and various starlight things agree they can hinder now and again.

would i be able to say seat an isotope in some kind of epoxy resin and smooth it off?

As has been said Anthony, definitely go for the Isoblob.
I have the small ones on the rod Bob built for me and they're excellent, although with my ageing eyes, I probably should have gone for the larger version.

Dave, forget the epoxy resin ( which is permanant and has no bend ), get hold of a tube of " CLEAR " bathroom sealant, use this to attach your isotopes. Its removable if nessecary, and bends with the rod.

Yes ;) adding some photo-luminescent powder along the way. The hard part is working out when the epoxy has cured to the right viscosity so it stays on the rod and off the floor !

Also be prepared to sit turning your rod while it cures fully, or build/buy a battery powered rod turner.

Practicing on a piece of cane is a good idea too.
