If you had to pick one..

Listening to martin Bowler on Saturday got me thinking. If you were making a film and HAD to catch a double figure barbel from ANY river in the country - where would you head to?

The royalty on the hampshire avon, might not be everyones cup of tea but it must be the best chance of a doubleon a day ticket.

Anywhere outside of Yorkshire! That way, when you catch a double, the hoardes of fish chasers won't descend like flies on our delightful rivers.

The Trent would be my first choice, with certain parts of the Kennet a distance second. Two or three years ago I would have said the Bristol Avon but (apart from the swim Stu refers to in his recent thread) I wouldn't fancy my chances now.

The way round it is to say nothing whatsoever, give no clue to the location other than the river concerned and make sure that your pictures are sanitised before they appear on the web.;)

P.S. I'd head to the Trent. Pretty high chance of a double in a good bag of fish.

Steve, not at all mate, just curious what others thoughts are. Mine would be the Royalty followed by the Trent. Fear not peeps, i am not after your secret locations on your treasured local rivers!

Lord knows, only ever had one! Although as I have a feeling that I may be on jon's second choice venue this Friday night I've got my fingers crossed I might double my tally.

I think we all know which rivers are prolific, and which aren't, though you lot have become a lot more secretive over the last two years. Nevermind the swim or area, it's becoming rare to hear of a double from any river. The gallery's looking very sparse. Not that it's a bad thing :)

I live in Manchester, but I fancy the Dorset Stour must hold a few? I travel down to Bournemouth a few times a year and always have a walk along Throop. It's such a lovely stretch of water - straight out of Mr Crabtree :)

What made you think of that, Mark?

Anglers like Martin have their trips planned months in advance and have friends to guide them (where and when necessary) to maximise the chance of success on the trip.

Even then, it doesn't always work out though. :D

I think Id book up a day on that streach Graham advertises on the Wye,trouble is Id have to sit there with 10 Noddies so I guess blanking isnt so bad!!

Well a very special swim l used to fish on the Tees had 3 low doubles outa there...
But l guess the trent near derby would be my other choice..

I really wouldn't want say which river would be my 1st choice ! Selfish ? Maybe ! But to respect those who fish there I won't divulge..........2nd choice would be The Kennet.
Why name my 2nd choice ? I think everyone knows the double potential of The Kennet............

Trent followed by Gt Ouse.

First because of quantity, second because of familiarity.

Gt Ouse Andy? I reckon you'd be (un)pleasantly surprised :-(

Thing's have changed a bit. I've never found it an easy river, but over the last couple of season's it's died a death. I've fished waters controlled by 4 different clubs, and the 'problems' aren't localised (sorry, that's 'localized' to you I guess :))

It's not rivers, but specifics - spots on certain rivers, fish you know... Informed that I would die in 24 hours' time if I didn't catch a double-figure barb, I wouldn't roll over and die, but would take up the challenge; and, do you know, I reckon that I very well might live to fish another day..............

throop beat 2 is great but hammered every day.
so mine would be the teme, such hard fighting tigers.
without diverting to much, should beat 2 be season ticket only.

Tidal Trent when home in the North,Bristol Avon when down at work in the South, though there loads I want to fish just never got around to it yet....

Everyone has to learn, i guess we were all noddies once ;) the real noddies are those who've been at it for years, and are still clueless, but it's not often in my experience you bump into them thankfully :p
