if money was no object....

If money wasn't an issue and you were trying to put together your ideal rod/reel combination, would you go with the tried and tested shimano baitrunner or something else? and what one rod would you buy as an all-rounder?

i dont think having the best rod and reel money can buy will put more fish in my net but it would look nice

There's more to fishing than catching fish Tony - you have to look good while doing it! :D If money was no object i might treat myself to a new rod or two but as others have said - investment in access to good waters would be my first priority. I'd keep my Penn Slammers aswell. ;)

If money were no object I would not be considering an all-rounder. I would burn all the carbon I had. I would then have my man drive me to private appointments with Mr Barder, M J in Hull and Lord Lumb of Accrington in that order.
Actually on reflection I would keep my 3lb armalites.
My reels I am happy with except I want a pair of live liners for medium range piking

Surely a Daiwa Airity would be as good of an all rounder as any rod is likely to be? Gudgeon to mid double carp on one bit of kit?

As suggested by Kevin, the Barbus Maximus MKII would be at the top end of my wish list.

A carbon fire is horribly messy and potentially dangerous Kevin. Try a traditional wood fire instead, it's SO very satisfying. Some bits of it even seem to come with their own hamster wheel style fans attached, one flick providing sufficient draft to achieve an absolutely effortless blaze.

Cheers, Dave.

I'd get Bob Gill to 'Bling Me Up' a lovely pair of rods and then seek out some VGC Shimano 5000GTE's, get them fully serviced by Felindre and be very happy !
Wouldn't help me catch, but if money were no object........Oh and maybe a pair of Chris Lythe pins just for back up.............

If money was no object I'd send more begging letters. The cost of stamps these days is ridiculous.

All that fancy hardwood not enough for you!

I honestly don't know what I would do, If money really were no object I would spend my life hunting down the best game fishing and guides the world can offer, I would employ someone like Mat Hayes or John Wilson to be my travel agent.
I would also make sure there was enough room on the flight for a dozen or so good fishing mates, You know who you are.

A man of culture!
and the reel Gavin?

Got me there, not really a reel tart but would probably pair it up with something I already have; Youngs BJ Lightweight or is that too crude for such a work of art? I suspect so.

Admired M.J.'s craftwork recently, he had me sorely tempted to place an order. He knows that I will eventually! Classic salesman, he had me assemble the rod and feel the power as it went around to its test curve.

Am delighted to be able to write that I have had one of these wonderful rods for a long time. A friend is making me a F.J. Taylor Roach Rod for my 65th birthday.

I am also fortunate in owning a Hexagraph and a Kennet Perfection.

Regards

Hugo

Money no object ? i,d get someone to fish for me, if he/she didn,t catch. THEN OFF WITH THEIR HEAD. :D

Seriously, i,d use what ive got, and spend the money on the best river tickets money could buy. :) I think we all make too much of a fuss about the tackle we use. Location is Everything.
