How special is this Ebay Hexagraph?

Came across this by accident on Ebay & it`s obvious the seller isn`t an angler but the price is going up...
Never heard of this rod but I think I do know the name Gerry Swanton - Hampshire Avon roach chap? Do you think it`s pokey enough for barbel?

Beautiful rod. I have a 11' No.2 Avon with Ray Walton's name on it. It's stated tc is 1.25lb. I use it for barbel and have landed fish to 13lb with ease. It's light and has a progressive action. Mine was also bought from Ebay.

Yes, probably very good for barbel on the float......

Julian - just had a gander at Ebay and searched Hexagraph. There are some salmon rods going for less the £200 - which as far as I'm concerned is a steal. Good for taking to a rod builder, lopping off the bottom 4ft, and turning into a fantastic barbel rod.

Unless I am very much mistaken , Hexagraph rods are made of carbon fibre . Where are the trees with these type of sticks hanging from them ? :D

A couple of the Barbel rods went on our BFW classified last year for £450 sold by lawrence Breakspere. I saw a 1.25lb TC one used last season and was very impressed, but the price is a lot to pay.

Its a stick, stopped fishing with sticks when alternatives became available :)

It's a wand! Started fishing with a wand when I had a bit of spare cash. :)

Mark - yes, it is a lot of money, even second-hand. I don't know what possessed me, to be honest, but no regrets.

The Gerry Swanton Specialist Hexagraph is very rare as only a small number were ever made. At the time, and they would have cost around £350 - £400+ new for the standard version. They were made in the mid-late 1990's. If you wanted a new one made today, it would probably cost you around £1,000+. The Hexagraphs are made up similar to cane rods with six triangular strips of carbon outer layer with a foam inner, glued and strung together, so when they are finished, they are of solid construction and not hollow. There are Hexagraph collectors out there.
