Hook sharpening stones

Does anyone use a hook sharpening stone for honing their hooks?
If so does anyone have any recommendations for a really good one......

I have use a Jag medium file now, and also have a Gardner Point Doctor 2 which is finer for finishing off a point if I need too.
I would say just go for a medium grade file for sorting points that have folded over or gone blunt. It doesn't take much to get them sharp again.

Hi Andy. Take a look at the JAG stuff. I've been using the file and green handled stone for the past few years. Dead handy.

Andy,.. I prefer a fine diamond Swiss file with a small handle, much better for smaller hooks. To be quite honest,.. as most of my barbel hooks have a curved point,.. I usually don't bother trying to re sharpen them.
I've had a penknife type hook sharpening stone for years that has one rounded edge, but tend to only use it for keeping the braid blades keen nowadays.

I use the diamond sharpening blade on my Leatherman Wave, puts a " sticky " point on the hooks no probs.

Thanks for the input gents, I've invested in a pair of the Jag stones, i'll give them a try on my fly hooks first...

More Like Land Rover

They look like the "Rolls Royce" of Multi tools!

It was a present about 15 years ago, and it is without doubt the most useful bit of kit I have, ok, not cheap, but they come with a 25 yr unconditional guarantee, I had to send mine back because I managed to break the scissors when snipping a bit of thick ( 150lb ) mono when making a Tope Trace, they exchanged the whole thing for a new one without a blink.. You dont get service like that very much these days.

Small diamond nail file for me. Usually medium one side and fine the other. Just lost one I've been using for about 10 years. Now going to start using one of a multipack pack of three I got from a pound shop.
