Well done Mike on a big yorkshire barbel. Your hard work and dedication has payed off. I bet your lad was amazed when you got it in the net! :)

Absolute belter of a barbel, well done that man. However, why are there so many mentions in this thread on the fact that it was caught in Yorkshire? Is that just a case of Yorkshiremen being Yorkshiremen (tin hat firmly on :p)....or is it a fact that decent sized barbel are few and far between up there near the edge of the world :D. Not being a well traveled fisher of barbel, I am intrigued. Looking at the river records, it doesn't look too different to elsewhere...indeed the Wharfe record is well over 15lb.

Cheers, Dave.

We're getting some nice fish appearing in the gallery so I'm trying to rotate the pictures more frequently.

Here's Mike's fish that this thread refers to:

David on rivers up ere a barbel over 10lb is still a big barbel ;) (in my opinion anyway) :)

Well done Mike. Any barbel from the Wharfe is special. It is a very different river from the time that three whiskers was roaming around. A double is extremely special ;)

That fish of Dave pearce,s is a stunning fish to look at, appears to be inch pefect with no scars or blemishes, cracking fish:)

David the wharfe had some major problems a few years back causing an almost overnight decline in fishing. It went from prolific to horrific! I believe the record was taken some years ago when lots of people fished the river.
Mike's fish is a belter (nice photo) ;)

Ah...I see, that explains all. Thanks for that Karl.

Cheers, Dave.

Hello David . A 10 lb , or even a 9lb Barbel is a big specimen from a Yorkshire river . Many proficient barbel specialists have fished for many years before landing their first double figure fish . A lot of the river records are a number of years old now and the record fish may well have shuffled off the river bed and met their maker
