I meant his other local river, The Colne!


We will have to save the Trout fishing for when we get to Britford Graham!

Just a few brown trout and the odd rainbow in the Chess now Keith.........

The springs which are (were) the source proper of the Chess, on the N/W fringes of the town of Chesham, have now completely dried up, so that the first mile or so of the old bed is now a gravel path

Where the river exits the town on the S/E outskirts, there are more springs which are still running, so there is a tiny memory of the river still flowing from there on. Unfortunately, the ancient artesian well fed cress beds to the S/E of the town ceased to exist as such many years ago, becoming first a trout farm, and then probably some twelve+ years back, a 'spring water' bottling plant As a consequence, most of that beautiful clean deep-well water that fed the river at that point is now lost as well.

Some of the other springs and tiny tributaries which feed the Chess on it's journey to Rickmansworth are fortunately still flowing, doing their best to keep it looking like a river....even so, it is but a sad memory of it's former self.

Such is life.

Once again gentlemen I offer my thanks for your kind comments , Keith I am particularly touched by yours as I am frequently left in awe of your exploits with a float rod . Yes Jon we will get together at that other place when the weather warms, yourself & Ian can target those gorgeous commons & I shall have a crack at the enormous Eels that the lake contains .
