Holdall

Looking for a 12ft 2or3 rod holdall something that can take a brolly. The main thing as not tall needs to carry well so I can put it over my shoulder and not scrape on the ground. Have had a trakker and saber sold them on as they carried very low

You’ll probably find Gary that most of them carry in similar places and the height of the person carrying them makes the difference as to where they sit with regards to the floor.
They need to carry vertically and the strap is usually positioned so that it’s possible to stay relatively balanced
If one carried much higher than another it would probably be a nightmare for keeping vertical on your shoulder when fully loaded.

Are you still using the korum holdall Richard

I always carry my quivers (Korums) with strap over my shoulder on opposite side to my rods, rods made up and horizonal to the ground, with tips to the front, and balanced ... so quiver/rods are ~3ft off the ground, and I can walk hands-free (or am I missing something?)

Depends on what else you carry and how you like to carry it.
I couldn’t carry a chair/rucksack (2 strap) combo on my back if I was to carry a quiver like that.

Drennan Specialist 3rod Compact quiver is light and relatively comfy - mine takes a Fox Specialist 45, 2x made up 12ft rods (with tip tops and reel protectors) and sometimes also a trotting rod in a full sleeve - 34" landing net, landing net handle and 3-5 full size storm poles (depending on the weather) go in the zipped side pockets. Short walks I'll carry it like a suitcase and its surprisingly well balanced . . .longer walks I carry it vertically like a rifle and wedge it between shoulder and rucksack . . .absolutely no clearance probs but then I'm not a dwarf . . .

Does the fox specialist brolly actually fit inside it??

Gaz, ive fished with you on the Ribble, over many fields, and im an even shorter arsed person than you, 😁. I have been using a Shakespear rod holdall that takes 12 ft rods for quite a while, the strap is fitted/attached an equal distance from both ends, so balances very well and evenly.

Gents, try carrying your rods without a quiver, you might be surprised how easy it is ! I carry one or two rods in my right hand, a chair, bank sticks and landing net handle in my left, rucksack on my back, job done can walk for miles. If I need a brolly I've got a small roving brolly (golf umbrella size) that I can carry with the rods. I use a quiver when carping and Im not sure why, much shorter walks I think, always find it more cumbersome !

Sorry Cliff but that sounds like a right chore to me.
When I walk both my hands are completely free. I can stick em in my pockets if i want.
Chair and bag all in one on my back supported with two straps and the quiver with all my stuff including a light weight brolley over my right shoulder. I use the chest strap from the chair to go round the quiver strap and clip that together which keeps the quiver firm on my shoulder.
I couldn’t get away with carrying everything lose in my hands. Especially a double rod session. I’d be clattering along the bank like a one man band.

Greys prodigy 2 rod holdall is good, side pocket big enough for a simple brolly I think but you wouldn't get a proper brolly system in one.
If it’s the one I’m thinking of I use one of these for big Bream fishing. I was looking for something in between the drennan two Rod and the big carp holdalls. It can carry 2 made up rods and two in their bags which suits me if I’m fishing three rods and using a spod or marker rod. Like you said, a decent brolly pocket, but not big enough for a brolly system.

I just tried it and it doesn’t touch the ground when the strap is over your shoulder, even at a vertical position. I’m 5’ 8” and it’s well clear of the ground

I don’t think I’d want to carry it too far. I can fit two made up rods with a landing net handle, bank sticks and a small brolly stuffed into the pocket of a drennan specialist 2 Rod hold all which always does me fine if I’m walking. My big bream fishing always involves too much gear anyway so a slightly heavy hold all on the trolley doesn’t bother me

Personally I have never understood the need for a rucksack (of any size) as it just makes carrying other things over your shoulder difficult, preferring instead to carry a small (Lidl special) over the shoulder bag, my chair is a JRC Stealth which is very light and has been fitted with a strap which then goes over the other shoulder, my rods, brolly etc are in a Korum 3 rod quiver which also goes over my shoulder leaving my hands free for my bait bucket, works for me ;) P.S. I mainly fish the Hants Avon and Dorset Stour.

I’ve recently started using a Thinking Anglers slim quiver and find it very good.

Its very light, takes a brolly if required and balances well When carried by hand.

The shoulder strap is long enough to go across to the opposite shoulder if required and works (for me) with a compact rucksack.

Its a skeletal design, but you can add simple 3/4 length rod sleeves if required.

horses for courses Richard, I do usually travel very light, often not even taking a chair and normally one rod so works for me.

With quivers themselves weighing next to nothing I can't really see the point in carrying rods, net, and sticks etc in my hand(s). I've got 2, 3, and 5 rod Korum quivers but favour the 3 rod version as they will hold : 2 rods, landing net pole (made up when moving swims), bank stick(s), small towel and small brolly (when required) in main inside compartment ... plus in the larger of the two zip pockets (small one takes my landing net) I can get my weigh sling, Korum scales, a short (back)stick, and two small bottles of cold drink. So feed and my bits 'n bobs are in my waistcoat, and my bait/feed/leads/ledgers/etc are in my bum bag, and my unhooking mat fits snuggly in the back of my chair. So no pack, both hands free, and now't on my back. Plus I can walk in my garage and know my quiver's ready and just needs my drink adding to it from the fridge. The only bugger is if I wish to take a big flask (i.e. in the winter)
N.b... Whenever possible I take my BumBuddy instead of a chair, which has two zip pockets, which usually remain empty. I'm 71, have frequent back problems since having a prolapsed vertebrae at 25 and surgery at 45, so try to keep the gear of my gear below 14lbs.... especially as I prefer to rove, and never fish near car parks. But, whatever works for you eh.
PS.. .. I never arrive on the bank and think "I wish I'd have brought this/that" ... but in the past I'd get home and think "Why did I take this/that, as I didn't/never use/need it". My best mate (who I used to fish with every week) used to take more than twice as much gear as me. Why? "Just in case". Naaaah.

It takes time and costs a fortune to find the right way for the individual or at least it has for me but I’ve cracked it. The chair was always my problem. I wanted the right chair that carried in the right way.
I’m a two strapper for sure. I can’t stand single shoulder straps on one side or even digging into my neck on the opposite side. My chair, bag and Matt all spread tightly between both shoulders on my back and it’s comfortable
The chair is the key to my system…… without that particular chair it all reverts back to the usual struggle because it has its own straps with chest strap so I can clip, hang and stuff as much or as little crap as I want on it and nothing changes with how comfortable it is to carry. It’s not a bag carrying a chair it’s a chair carrying a bag and there is a huge difference.
Even the quiver sees some of the action based on the chairs design
As rightly pointed out holdalls and quivers don’t sit great with two straps on the back. They tend to get pushed off the shoulder and this is where the chest strap on the chair comes in. Place the quiver on the shoulder as normal, take the chest strap from the chair or bag or whatever under and around the quivers shoulder strap and connect it together across your chest and tighten.
I’ve never had a system so supported and restrictive of movement or slippage and that’s the way to be comfortable and walk further. If you can restrict any movement in the gear as you carry it then you’ll be more comfortable for longer .
