Hi s big water , chimera 3 or4

I would like to know what people who have these rods think of them
I am considering getting a pair of either
Hi s big water
Chimera 3
Chimera 4

I will use them on the Trent casting mostly 5oz weight but stepping up to 8oz
I had a cast with a hi s with 8oz weight and without much effort hit the far bank on Trent but what action playing a fish are they and the chimeras
I don’t want to end up with a broomstick of a rod

I couldn’t find any info on what the hi s recommend casting weight is

Any info gratefully received

No of course not. Harrison are not going to build a barbel rod that’s diamond stiff.
I don’t own one but I’ve had the 3’s as you know and this is going to be a longer more powerful version of the 3.

The 3 is not a frequent or distance 8oz rod.

It will be cleverly designed to play big barbel properly.
@Jon Frisby will be able to tell you exactly what they are like because he’s used them all extensively

I use the 3's on the Trent and they'll happily cast 6 oz feeders all day long. I've never had the need to use 8 oz. Though you'll struggle to hit the far bank of the tidal Trent. They are a powerful, nice for playing barbel rod. I can't comment on the HiS and 4's. Although they tend to receive a good write up.
 
I’ve had the Hi S for a couple of seasons now, using them on the tidal Trent. I love them, they don’t feel 2.75 until you load them up, then you can feel the power down the lower section of the blank.

No experience of the Chimeras, but I know a few on my stretch who use the 4’s and really rate them. I doubt you’ll go wrong with either. I’d imagine the Chimera 3 are going to be undergunned when you need to cast 8oz+ when there some water on.

speak to a rod builder?
you’re venturing into pike rod territory if it’s an 8oz feeder + content
I use X1s for launching say a joey mackerel/ lamprey section and a 4-5 oz lead which will be a similar payload
That kind of weight loads the blank perfectly and they are a lovely rod to play fish on and Trent barbel are going to pull harder than you’re average mid double esox, so I wouldn’t say you’re over gunned
But a rod builder will get you exactly what you want and you have a 3 month window now👍

I bought a couple of Dave Lumb P1 pike rods a couple of yrs back and have used them on the Trent in very high water with 8 oz leads…..they did the job admirably and still had a nice playing action. I reasoned it wasn’t worth me investing in specialist flood rods for the handful of times I’m likely to fish those conditions so the p1s double up nicely.
 
That extra foot makes a helluva difference, when playing fish on a full river....

10oz lead with a pva bag as well. Lobbing rather than casting obviously, but no issues at all. I’ve thrown 8oz 50+ yards across the tidal without issue. They sound like broomsticks but they’re really not, they’re still really nice to play fish on and I believe the 13’ really makes a difference to the action. So much so that my Fox Duo lite get left in the bag for all but the lowest summer levels (or smaller rivers obviously) and I use the Hi S for 90%+ of my tidal Trent work.

They’re the 13’ 2.75 HW just to clarify the exact model.
 
Hi Ray had the big water hi s 13ft 2.75 since they first came out they are a joy to play fish on I don't even worry what weights. I spomb out with it if traveling light and handles 8oz feeders without any concern I must admit I don't have leads over 8oz but handles them just fine.
