Hi all, just rejoined and need some gear

Fishing gear that it, not the other sort!
I used to be a member here a few years ago under the name barbusg60 and have decided to get back into it after a long break (job/children etc)
Anyway, I sold a lot of my gear and then had my favourite kit stolen so am starting again from scratch.
My old Peregrine rods and Abu Suverans are a bit out of reach nowadays so am looking for some suggestions of affordable, quality barbel tackle.
I fish the lower/mid Bristol Avon so tackle ideas to suit there please.

What price range?
Baitrunners or nornal fixed spools?
 
Probably up to about £200 for a rod & reel Clive.
I was thinking of possibly a Korum twin Tip, dont know if they are any good though and maybe a Shimano 4000d reel.

That seems like a great combo to be honest. The Korum rods are normally excellent and the 4000d is superb.
 
I have a korum twin tip and its a great rod, i use the 1.75lb for barbel fishing and the 2.2lb top for pike and carp.

Another vote for the Korum neoteric twin tip,I have a pair of them and use the 2.2 tip all the time on the Trent.Brilliant rod for the money and it's landed some quality fish this year.I also use shimano 5000 baitrunners,this combination is within your budget and I am sure will do the job.
 
Ive just had a look at the first gen Neoteric in a shop and it felt very nice. I got offered that and a 4000D for £200.
Is there much difference in the 4000D and the DL4000FA version, that ones about £40 cheaper.
I do like the rod though, although I was very taken with a Beastmaster Concept Power Barbel, but that was nearer £200 for the rod on its own.

The 4000D is a far more robust reel, and better cranking power. The DL4000FA is a lot lighter but does come with a spare spool as standard, it's an extra for the 4000D.

I have a pair of the XT4000FA, and also the old 3500B which is similar in size to the 4000D. Of the 2 different reels I feel more confident playing a barbel with the 3500B, it just seems easier somehow.

Im only after one reel so assume the 4000d would be a better allrounder than the DL then.
I used to have a 3500b a few years ago but it felt too heavy for my roving style.

The 4000d is a good reel, but for the money, and the price of a spare spool you can have 2 x DL4000FAs which would mean 4 spools and the FA has a much better line clip. I have both and I would say that I would buy the FA over the D given the price difference. Though you can't really go wrong with either
