Good evening ppl I'd just through I'd put a post on about a rod iv add built for me..
So with the price of the ray Walton and the avon rods going for upto £1000 I thought a new avenue would be taken .so I bought a 15ft hexagraph of ebay for £99 then bought some grade A cork and reel seat for around £30.after trying the rod i settled on a 10ft so transporting it with be easier plus I only fish using a centre pin so 10ft is ok with me..I got the rod back this week strapped a reel on it and add a play in a garden and it feels around 1.75lb tc but with a full parabolic action .so total cost came in at £280..

Hi Robert, looks good. I’m aware others have done this and I was tempted too. What line weight was the original rod? Can you still feel it’s fly rod parentage when you give it a waggle? Is that what you mean when you say full full parabolic action?

I built a 10ft light float rod from a whisker fly rod and I can feel its fly rod heritage, Only to be expected really, it’s 8ft of the original 10ft fly rod with a 2ft solid carbon tip.

Hello there Ralph casting weight was 9=11..as for the action feeling that some what of a fly fishing rod I couldnt coment as iv never picket a fly rod up .you could be well rite as theres no fishing tip in the rod ie looking for bites ..the rod would go round first in a curve ..hope this helps

That looks very nice Robert . I have converted several cane 15 ft or so salmon rods into very capable 10 ft 6inch “ Carp Avon “ rods . As you say they are parabolic action but very pleasing to use.
My favourit is a “Sharps impregnated “ which I converted for Martin James MBE.
Martin uses it for Carp but it would work very well for Barbel .
One day I may well try to source a rod like yours and do a conversion .

Realy nice build rob. I’ve got a 10ft custom hexagraph aswell probably around the 1.75lb tc here are some pics of it
Looking at the tip width, Rob, I'm assuming another salmon rod conversion?
I bought one too, recently, after @Robert Morgan told me of his plans. However, the tip's quite fat so may not go down the same road. I own three factory-build Hexagraphs already so it's not like I need another. 🤣

@Robert Morgan - it really looks top notch. Kudos to your builder.

Yeah mate a salmon rod conversion. my one as actually got a weighted butt to give the rod a better balance. With the prices of hexagraph rods at the moment this is definitely the much better option to go down the salmon rod conversion saves loads of £££££
