Hereford & Dist AA

John Newman

Senior Member
Despite living in Cambridgeshire I have joined Hereford DAA. Why you may well ask?

I like to visit the Wye for a few days in early autumn and by joining this year (£55) I get a reduced price next year as I will qualify for senior rate (£35) which seems a bargain compared with certain agencies offering day tickets.

My question is which waters do I need to be heading to? My preference is to float fish for the barbel but realise this is dependent on river conditions.

Any advice would be gratefully received and I might get a chance to take a quick look while over that way for the three days I have booked at the end of the month.

John, you'll find that every stretch of their waters has some float pegs especially when the river is low. This time of year just look for the shallow gravel runs, slower deeper pegs as it gets colder. As G says, the town centre in winter can be amazing sport on the right day and you can float fish it even in flood conditions.
