Help Needed.

i saw this carp angler with his trolly piled 6ft high, he must of been carrying 5k's worth of gear, not my cup of tea these days, give us a match rod and a centrepin on a river anyday.
mine you i do miss the stalking thing.

I love it, fish for everything, go for it Graham, good luck, I had a couple of nice ones from the Causeway a couple of weeks back

Otherwise you finish up like the single species snobs :)

If they feel that to catch carp they need three identical outfits and every other item of tackle camoflagued, then yes!

Clive you rascal, stop being so judgemental :p They are all quite aware that regimented tackle like that will not catch any more carp in itself. To them, it is all part of the fun, the feeling of intense preparation, care in detail, having got everything spot on....it installs a feeling of confidence....and that DOES catch more fish. I never felt the need myself, but a lot of intelligent men, men I respected a lot and who were far better anglers than I could ever be...did like to do things that way. Live and let live mate, everyone to their own, and don't judge a book by it's cover....and all those other daft platitudes :D:D

How is your little bit of French paradise at the moment fella? All good I hope?

Dave, It's all about male jewellery IMO. Just like birdwatching, cycling and other sports have become. Acquiring tackle / equipment and showing it off. As for catching more fish; when you consider they have three baits out for days and nights at a time is it any wonder that they catch a few carp? It's not fishing, its attrition. :D

Believe this or not occassionally I have fished these carp brothels. A mate who we used to go camping with in the UK picks sites with carp puddles on them when its his turn to choose the venue. (To get my own back I take him mullet fishing ;) ) The last three times we have gone carp fishing we have caught more fish between us than we've seen caught all day by the tri-tackle boys. And, we only fish for an hour just before dusk while the charcoal on the BBQ is warming up. One rod, one centrepin reel, a few slices of bread and 'drop and dunk' as Terry calls it, amongst the lillies.

He came round yesterday to see us and I took him up to my 'private' carp lake. Well, OK it's a small farm pond, but there's only me fishes it and I'm using it to practise catching carp on 'proper' flies, not dog biscuit imitations or the infamous Warburton's Fancy. Once I find how to reliably get them in the pond I can move onto larger waters and rivers. :)
 
I've just arrived back from 48 hours on my syndicate after carp. I blanked. I think it is my 7th blank since i caught a 25 year old, warrior type mirror at 28lb 2oz. Trying to outwit these wily old carp is really getting my juices flowing, even if it is frustrating at times.

One thing that can be sure, if i manage to get one of these fish to make a mistake, my heart will be going a lot more than when the barbel rod pulls round on the Trent again. Isn't that one of the things that fishing's about? That sense of anticipation, and heart stopping thrill? Find the right water and carping's a wonderful experience in my opinion.

Go for it Graham ;)

I think that is the first time i have read the word "snobs" used, it has certainly crossed my mind on several occasions:p:)

Unfortunately I was Called up (begged) to help out the local cricket club by the Lad.

Managed 3 overs for 7 runs and no wickets, before the heavens opened in Theale.

Let one ball go for four between my legs, one missed catch (hard) and a tweeked hamstring. We then spent the next 3 hours checking the heavy rain and the fine London Pride in the pavillion.

Therefore I'll go carp fishing next friday. I think I will write up a diary of my efforts for BFW during the close season.

I might call it.

Cricket!! Has to be the next best thing (almost), just taken the dogs out and the small stream is looking as good as I have ever seen it, I bet the likes of the Teme and the Arrow are well flushed and looking good too, hope that they are still good come June 16th.

Yep a diary sounds like a good idea, and the title is superb:)

Actually looking forward to getting the float rod out after Tench etc, but have been distracted by the usual end of season scrap for survival in the footy....now all good so no excuses.
 
That's me buggered then lol, I take absolutely loads and loads have matching rods and reels alot of expensive tarty tackle but that's simply because I get up and go to work and spend money on something I love doing and something that's going to make my life on the bank as easy as can be I know for a fact I don't need it all though all I need is a rod,reel,line,weights bait,hooks and landing net to cath fish but it's what I enjoy so that's me. Each to there own though but no fun in us all been the same and fishing the same

Obviously if you think Carping is about sleeping and getting wrecked, then youve not been doing it properly..:D..I do find it abit funny that some anglers think carp fisherman are pot smoking , beer swilling pigs..If it wasent for Carp fisherman alot of methods and baits etc wouldent be known and used successfully in modern day Barbel fishing..;)
