Hello all.

Well hello all.

I'm new to the forum. Been a fisherman for 45 years, mostly Game, but also Carp, and big Roach.

Four years ago I moved Lincolnshire (Grantham) so the Trent is local. I've become very disillusioned with my fly fishing, and the carp scene is so far away far away from the 'up close and personal' fishing I love.

I've dabbled with barbel, but never really got ''hooked'' until I fished the Trent. I've just invested in some proper rods (Daiwa Infinity 2.25) and they should be with me next week. I hope I don't regret the purchase, as I did loads of research and almost took the Free Spirit route. But I've owned Daiwa before and they have always felt right! Maybe you guys will give me some positive feedback.

Anyway I'm looking forward to making some friends on the forum.

So if your interested in the Trent, I'll try to give a bit back to the forum, as I have loads of little questions I'm sure you experts will be able to help me with.

One thing I have got from the forum already is a little lead bag I'd never had purchased had I not joined?

Warm Greetings to all.

Richard.:p

Welcome from me Richard. I'll get your lead pouch in the post today :)

Looking forward to hearing how your barbelling career progresses.

Regards,

Andy

Welcome to the Mad House Richard....(Only Joking) :):)

Welcome richard. The daiwa infinity rods are top notch mate IMO best off the shelf rods you can buy

Thanks Robert, it puts my mind at ease. You can go around in circles looking and I've always been a bit of a tackle tart, sadly.

I always feel if you sit behind quality rods, you cannot ever blame the tackle for failure. Do you think 8000 reels are to big/heavy for the Trent? I have also 5000 and some Daiwa SS2600.

Daiwa infinity rods are the best better than most custom built rods imo. You won't need 8000 size reels. 6000 max really.

If you can get hold of them shimano 5000xtea would be a nice reel to pair them up with other then that shimano 6000d

IMO I would avoid the ss2600 there a nice little reel for stalking or surface fishing for carp but don't seem to have enough cranking power. You won't go far wrong with a decent shimano reel mate
